Biography

UNIDA was formed by ex KYUSS and SLO BURN vocalist and Stoner guru John Garcia. Just previous to UNIDA Garcia had featured as part of the JMJ project band, a collaboration with Jason Burns and Mike Riley that contributed to the 'Welcome To Meteor City' compilation. The initial band comprised of Garcia alongside guitarist Arthur Seay, former NOT ACTUAL SIZE and LAB bass player Dave Dinsmore and drummer Miguel 'Mike' Cancino.

The band debuted with a split album shared with Swedish band DOZER, 'The Best Of Wayne-Gro'. Following completion of the debut Chris Goss produced 1999 album 'Coping With The Urban Coyote' Garcia's erstwhile KYUSS colleague bassist Scott Reeder joined UNIDA for live work. Lengthy European tour schedule commenced in Denmark during October, taking the band through Europe and closing in England during mid November.

2000 found UNIDA signing to the American Recordings label. Strangely, in November of 2001 the band was then abruptly dumped just after completion of an album recording. Having been produced by George Drakoulias, the band later let it be known the album had cost $350'000 to record.

In early 2002 Seay would also announce the formation of a high profile side endeavour dubbed DR. FUNGUS. Joining him on this venture would be COAL CHAMBER bassist Nadja Puelen, ADEMA drummer Kris Kohls and former DRAIN STH drummer Martina Axen. Garcia unveiled a further band project dubbed HERMANO, the new outfit, having recorded a debut album some three years previous, being confirmed for a live European debut at the 2002 'Dynamo Open Air' festival. HERMANO also included Mike Callahan of DISENGAGE, David Angstrom of BLACK CAT BONE and SUPAFUZZ, Steve Earle of the AFGHAN WHIGS and Dandy Brown from ORQUSTA DEL DESIERTO.

It would be revealed in early January 2003 that Scott Reeder had partaken in auditions for the position of bassist with METALLICA. Although his application was unsuccessful Reeder still exited from UNIDA that March. For West Coast dates in June the band pulled in the high profile figure of SLIPKNOT bassist Paul Gray as a temporary measure.

In a highly prosperous yet unexpected musical diversion Garcia alled himself with Dance act THE CRYSTAL METHOD, co-writing and singing the track 'Born Too Slow' for their 'Legion Of Boom' album. This track landed the honours of 'Best Single' at the 'DanceStar USA - American Dance Music Awards'. Garcia and THE CRYSTAL METHOD performed the song live at the awards ceremony, held at the Bayfront Park Amphitheater in Miami.

2005 saw a triumvirate of erstwhile UNIDA members, guitarist Arthur Seay, bass player Eddie Plasciencia and drummer Mike Cancino, marking their return with a new outfit billed HOUSE OF BROKEN PROMISES. Scott Reeder produced the 'Auricle' album for Los Angeles outfit BUTCHER in mid 2005, subsequently joining the band as a full-time member.
