Biography

Reckoned by many to be as mad as a March hare by much of the Rock media but hailed as an underground genius by her many fans, The Great Kat, real name Katherine Thomas, first reared her head in 1987 touting herself as the world's fastest guitarist and only true musician. Whatever the merits of her claims THE GREAT KAT has certainly made an indelible impression upon the Metal scene.

Having attended the famed Julliard School Of Music Kat signed to Roadrunner and recorded her debut album, the unsubtle 'Worship Me Or Die' to an interesting array of opinion from the world's Metal press. Karat Faye, the man who produced MEGADETH's first album, was chosehn as producer but did not stay the course and eventually studio owner Kurt Shore scored production credits. During recording a glut of drummers came in and out of the band before Adam Killa committed. Before his induction Kay held talks with Greg D'Angelo of WHITE LION and ANTHRAX, Tony Scaglione of WHIPLASH and SLAYER and even DAVID LEE ROTH's Greg Bissonette, none of whom wished to participate. Nevertheless, the album would generate not only healthy album sales world wide but valuable press coverage for Kat's uniquely over the top approach. Bass was supplied by Tom Von Doom, subsequently to join the CYCLE SLUTS FROM HELL. Tom Von Doom and Adam Killa subsequently forged MIGHTY JOE YOUNG.

By 1989 Kat had seemingly found suitable musicians in order to tour with, the lucky duo being bassist Chip Marshall and drummer Kevin Dedario. Later releases have been short on duration if crammed to the hilt with energy. The 1998 'Bloody Vivaldi' opus features a take on Vivaldi's much loved 'Four Seasons', the 39 second hyper blast of 'Blood' and also Sarasate's 'Carmen's Fantasy'. The 2000 release 'Rossini's Rape' plumbed even deeper into the realms of the truly disturbing with workouts of Rossini's 'William Tell Overture' and Bazzini's 'The Road Of The Goblins'.

THE GREAT KAT launched a new studio album 'Wagner's War' in August of 2002, apparently her response to the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks.
