Seattle heavyweights TAD, fronted by man mountain guitarist Tad Doyle and his equally corpulent band mates, had the ignominy of their 1989 support band NIRVANA exploding into global superstardom leaving the headline act floundering. TAD, named after frontman Tad Doyle, were created by ex-BUNDLES OF HISS men Doyle and bassist Kurt Danielson and ex-SKIN YARD drummer Steve Wied.

BUNDLES OF HISS was a breeding ground for Seattle talent. Not only did the band feature erstwhile H-HOUR man Doyle (then a drummer) and Danielson but vocalist Kurt Schonberg and Dan Peters, later to journey through MUDHONEY, NIRVANA, FASTBACKS and LOVE BATTERY.

TAD's 1989 single was a shared affair with PUSSY GALORE, both bands having a crack at BLACK FLAG's 'Damaged'. In April of 1991 the group undertook headline dates in the UK. That same year TAD lost drummer Steve Wied. The ex-drummer would make his presence felt in WILLARD, FOIL and DADDY HATE BOX.

TAD enlisted former SCRATCH ACID and RAPEMAN member Ray Washam. Doyle also surfaced in the movie 'Singles'. The band's 1991 album 'Eight Way Santa' was withdrawn from sale when a lawsuit was launched by the man depicted on the album cover. TAD had found a photograph of a man fondling his wife's breasts and used it as the album cover! The album problems did not stop their as the giant drinks corporation Pepsi objected to the song 'Jack Pepsi'. Josh Sinder took the drum stool in 1993.

TAD opened for SOUNDGARDEN on their 1994 British dates whilst back home the band were embroiled yet again in controversy for album cover artwork as posters for 'Inhaler' depicted President Clinton' smoking a joint.

Thorstensen left TAD in 1995 prior to recording the Jack Endino produced 'Infra Red Riding Hood'. Ex-CONTROL FREAK / FOIL drummer Mike Mongrain was on the drums during 1997 before TAD folded.

Doyle guested on MARK LANEGAN's HOG MOLLY. Danielson became a member of VALIS alongside former SCREAMING TREES bassist Van Connor and his BUNDLES OF HISS partner drummer Dan Peters.
