Biography
Grunge supergroup side project put together by ALICE IN CHAINS frontman Layne Staley, SCREAMING TREES drummer Barrett Martin and PEARL JAM guitarist Mike McCready. Bassist John Baker-Saunders was previously with THE WALKABOUTS. The group was initially entitled THE GACY BUNCH, after the mass murderer John Wayne Gacy, prior to the adoption of MAD SEASON. With interest in the band high internationally, the 1995 MAD SEASON album 'Above' charted in both the UK and USA.
By 1998 the band had evolved into DISINFORMATION with SCREAMING TREES vocalist MARK LANEGAN taking the absent Staley's role.
Martin also pursues other interests with his band TUATARA whilst Lanegan issued a solo album in 2000. Tragically, Baker-Saunders succumbed to a heroin overdose in January 1999. Further misfortunate came when Layne Staley, known to have been battling heroin addiction for many years, was found dead at his home in Seattle on Friday April 19th 2002. He was only 34. A subsequent coroner's report determined that Staley had died from a mix of heroin and cocaine. It would also be revealed that the singer had actually passed away around April the 5th, although his body was only found some two weeks later.
