Biography

RED SQUARE BLACK notably featured Albuquerque, New Mexico born drummer Randy Castillo, an adept of such outfits as THE OFFENDERS, THE MOTELS, STONE FURY, the LITA FORD band and OZZY OSBOURNE, featuring on 'The Ultimate Sin' in 1986, 'No Rest For The Wicked' in 1988, 'Just Say Ozzy' in 1990, 'No More Tears' in 1991 and the concert album 'Live & Loud' during 1993. Upon Ozzy's "retirement", initially Castillo teamed up with ex-ALIEN and THE FOUR HORSEMEN vocalist Frank Starr (a.k.a. Frank Casamassina), bassist Terry Nails (Terry Goodman) and guitarist John Lowery to create BONE ANGEL. Despite it's pedigree this band dissolved. Castillo, Nails and Starr stuck together to morph into HARD LUCK with ex-DIO and ROUGH CUTT guitarist Craig Goldy.

Forging RED SQUARE BLACK with John Lowery, a self-titled album, produced by Bob Marlette, emerged on the Zoo label during 1994. However, Lowery got a call to join KD LANG's tourband and Castillo hooked back up with OZZY OSBOURNE, thus sealing the fate of RED SQUARE BLACK. Lowery then joined Rob Halford's TWO project. Castillo's next commercial release would be a session on BRET MICHAELS 1998 solo album 'A Letter From Death Row' prior to replacing TOMMY LEE in MÖTLEY CRÜE for the 'New Tattoo' album in 2000.

Tragically the Rock world lost one of its favoured sons on March 26th 2002. The drummer, just 49 years old, died of cancer.
