Biography
Former LION guitarist Doug Aldrich went on to form BAD MOON RISING following the disbanding of HURRICANE, with whom he recorded 1989's 'Slave To The Thrill', and worked with HOUSE OF LORDS on the 'Sahara' album and also in a live situation. Aldrich recorded his debut solo album, 'High Centered', released in 1994, which is 98% instrumental save for one track (Blackstone') with Aldrich handling vocals and another ('Face Down') featuring a guest appearance from HARDLINE's Joey Gioeli. In addition, BLUE MURDER's bass man TONY FRANKLIN contributed to the track 'Appalachian Sister'.
A second solo album, 'Electrovision', was released in Japan during 1997. For this recording Aldrich utilised a studio band of Robbie Harrington on bass and drummer Chris Frazier. Guests included GUNS N' ROSES keyboard player Dizzy Reed, SAIGON KICK's Matt Kramer, BAD MOON RISING's Kal Swan and LITTLE CEASAR's Ron Young. In 1999 Aldrich emerged with a new act BURNING RAIN fronted by ex-MEDICINE WHEEL singer Keith St John.
Aldrich cut music for the Japanese TV show 'Mikazuki' in 2000 collaborating with TESLA guitarist Frank Hannon, QUIET RIOT bassist Rudy Sarzo and VANILLA FUDGE veteran bassist TIM BOGERT.
In 2001 it emerged that Aldrich had formed part of the CRUSADE band project of ex -SHOUT and TAMPLIN vocalist Ken Tamplin, QUIET RIOT bassist Rudy Sarzo and IMPELLITERRI men keyboard player Edward Harris Roth and drummer Glen Sobel.
The guitarist assembled material for a new project on the Z Records label in 2001 scheduled as his debut European release. Amongst contributors on these sessions were his erstwhile LION and BAD MOON RISING colleague vocalist Kal Swan, Johnny Gioeli of HARDLINE, Ron Young from LITTLE CAESAR, Matt Kramer of SAIGON KICK, bassist Tony Franklin from THE FIRM and BLUE MURDER and STEVE VAI man Chris Frazier.
In January 2002 Aldrich joined the ranks of DIO. The guitarist, having hopped from DIO to the WHITESNAKE fold, guested on Italian singer CHRIS CATENA's 2005 solo album 'Discovery - Return of the Galactic Freakboy'. As soon as WHITESNAKE South American gigs were wrapped up Doug Aldrich jumped straight back into the ranks of DIO as temporary substitute for an injured Craig Goldy.
The guitarist featured on the VAN HALEN song 'I'm The One included on the tribute album '80s Metal Tribute To Van Halen' released by Deadline Records in September 2006.
