Modern Metal band SOULBENT came together in the Summer of 2002, originally a South Florida based project of vocalist / guitarist J.C. Dwyer, previously known on the scene for his drum work with PAINGOD, and sibling Dylan Dwyer on bass guitar. Upon relocating to Pittsburgh the band was firmed up with the addition of cousin Shawn Cray on drums, then second guitarist Frank Farruggia.

J.C. Dwyer would lay down drums on Hardcore act GONEMAD's debut album and acted as stand in drummer for PRO-PAIN's 2004 European dates.
