Pioneering Pittsburgh Doom styled Thrashers DREAM DEATH arrived in 1984 releasing a demo tape 'More Graveyard Delving' two years later. After DREAM DEATH's debut album 'Journey Into Mystery' was released by the New Renaissance label in 1987 bassist Ted Williams defected to the Pittsburgh Thrash act EVICTION. Subsequently, Williams and EVICTION guitarist Rob Tabachka formed the garage Punk band PILSNER.

Guitarist Terry Weston, frontman Brian Lawrence and drummer Mike Smail later created premier Doom act PENANCE issuing a string of highly commended albums. Smail has also lent his drumming skills to acts such as CATHEDRAL, SILVER TONGUED DEVIL, INTERNAL VOID and PENTAGRAM.

DREAM DEATH recordings billed as 'Back From The Dead', compiling the original demos, surfaced on Psychodoomelic Records during 2005. That same year the group announced a reformation to conduct new recordings.
