PANDORA'S BOX

    Biography

An album project assembled by MEAT LOAF collaborator JIM STEINMAN. As mentor, songwriter and executive producer of the landmark 'Bat Out Of Hell' album Steinman is almost wholly responsible for partnering Hard Rock with a gothic Broadway grandiosity that has garnered album sales into the many millions. His own solo effort, 1981's 'Bad For Good', was intended to be a further MEAT LOAF album. Although regarded as somewhat of a curiosity at the time, MEAT LOAF has since given the album due legitimacy by subsequently recording no less than five of the album tracks. A less successful venture would be a brief production alliance with DEF LEPPARD, a union which ended acrimoniously.

His late eighties PANDORA'S BOX project was fronted by a formidable quartet of female vocalists featuring ELLEN FOLEY, Elaine Caswell, Deliria Wilde and Gina Taylor. As expected of Steinman the album, featuring a cover of THE DOORS 'Twentieth Century Fox', was a suitably ambitious affair.

With PANDORA'S BOX failing to make any impression on the charts Steinman would hook up with MEAT LOAF for the block busting 'Bat Out Of Hell II' album finally issuing the blockbuster four years later. Steinman naturally had the last laugh with PANDORA'S BOX, it included the original versions of 'It Just Won't Quit', 'Good Girls Go To Heaven (Bad Girls Go Everywhere)' and 'Original Sin', all later to be sung by MEAT LOAF and even 'It's All Coming Back To Me Now' re-recorded by none other than CELINE DION.
