Biography

Born from the ashes of ex-TWISTED SISTER vocalist Dee Snider's DESPERADOS project, WIDOWMAKER brought Snider together with the almost legendary New York based hired gun guitarist Al Pitrelli, a veteran of TALAS, DANGER DANGER, ASIA and ALICE COOPER.

Snider's old TWISTED SISTER drumming band mate Joe Franco was also on board. WIDOWMAKER's drummer also held an illustrious career behind him with THE GOOD RATS, VINNIE MOORE, THE LESLIE WEST BAND and DORO. English born bassist Marc Russell had been a member of BEKI BONDAGE & THE BOMBSHELLS.

Two commendable albums would be issued, both released by UK label Music For Nations in Europe, but the band was never able to mount a fully cohesive promotional campaign to back these up. The opening 1992 'Blood And Bullets' opus included three tracks, 'Emaheevul', 'Gone Bad' and 'Calling For You', re-worked from the DESPERADO sessions. The Grungified 'Stand By For The Pain', produced by Rick Kerr, arrived in 1994 on the CMC International imprint. On the live front, WIDOWMAKER played some shows opening for the likes of ACE FREHLEY.

Bassist Freddy Villano was reported to be working on an untitled project with ex-TANGIER man Gary Saint during 1997. Pitrelli joined Power Metal veterans SAVATAGE for a batch of albums before live work with BLUE OYSTER CULT then uniting with MEGADETH in 2000. By early 2002 Pitrelli was back in the ranks of SAVATAGE. Freddy Villano meantime united with DEE SNIDER once again for a batch of live dates in June of 2002.
