Biography
Infamous Punk-Metal unit fronted by the frightening form of Wendy Orlean Williams, a woman of almost Amazonian appearance who, bedecked in often nothing but strategically placed gaffa tape and armoured nipples, frequently terrified her audiences with a chainsaw onstage. The PLASMATICS was assembled by Porn guru Rod Swenson with O'Williams pulled from a career as a stripper and porn actress.
The PLASMATICS first full length effort 'New Hope For The Wretched' featured a line up of O' Williams, guitarists Wes Beech and Richard Stotts, mohicaned bassist Jean Beauvoir and drummer Stu Deutsch. An earlier drummer had been TWISTED SISTER's Tony Petri.
Ex-ALICE COOPER man Neal Smith took over on the drumstool for 1981's 'Beyond The Valley Of 1984'. The follow up mini-album 'Metal Priestess' featured live tracks including Beauvoir and ex-TWISTED SISTER drummer Tony Petri, but the studio cuts were laid down by a new rhythm section of bassist Chris Romanelli and drummer Joey Reese.
The PLASMATICS toured in America opening for KISS in early 1983 on 'Creatures Of The Night' dates but following the group's split with Capitol it was almost inevitable that the New Yorker's would break up. With the disintegration of The PLASMATICS O' Williams went solo returning in 1984 with an album through Music For Nations produced by KISS bassist Gene Simmons.
Beauvoir was also to issue solo albums before creating the Metal bands VOODOO X and CROWN OF THORNS, both featuring Tommy Lafferty. Junior Romanelli, meantime, forged PHANTOM. Naturally, WENDY O WILLIAMS herself went solo debuting with 1984's GENE SIMMONS produced 'W.O.W.' album. Joining in on the proceedings were Romanelli and Beech.
During the interim Stotts created KING FLUX later drafting Romanelli and Petri. A later recruit was former BLUE OYSTER CULT drummer Albert Bouchard. Richie Stotts teamed up with Jean Beauvoir to form KING FLUX with Tony Petri and bassist Tommy Lafferty, who had previously recorded with Beauvoir on a projected solo album.
KING FLUX recorded a promising three track demo that contained 'No More Time For Dreams', 'Kingdom Come' and 'What You Don't Know Doesn't Hurt You'.
However, the project failed to last and Stotts was found to be working with RAMONES vocalist Joey Ramone in early 1985. KING FLUX only managed a solitary single 'The Man With X Ray Eyes'. Romanelli founded SHOTGUN RATIONALE with Englishman and ex TANK / STREETFIGHTER drummer Gary Taylor.
Wendy resurrected THE PLASMATICS handle, for their ninth anniversary, for an ambitious concept album entitled 'Maggots: The Record'. The Sci-Fi inspired album saw Wendy joined by guitarists Wes Beech and Michael Ray, bassist Chris Romanelli and drummer Ray Callahan. The same year German Metal band DESTRUCTION covered 'The Damned' for their 'Mad Butcher' EP.
Both Beech and Beauvoir have had songs recorded by KISS, Beech's 'Love's A Deadly Weapon' appearing on the 'Asylum' album.
Tolliver would be found in a fresh act titled BITCH BOY during 1991. Other members comprised of erstwhile METALWOLF, AVENGER and GHOSTDANCE guitarist GREG REITER, vocalist Allen Nichols and bass player Bill Klein. The drummer also created the female fronted MURDER INK.
O Williams went to work in a health food store although tragically Wendy committed suicide by shooting herself in her Connecticut home on April 5, 1998. Drummer T.C. Tolliver returned in 2005 as part of the band HAT TRICK OF MISERY.
