Biography
Originally from Long Island, New York trio CINTRON came together after band leader George Cintron split from TATTOO and quickly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with on the New York club circuit. Earning their corn with sets of AC/DC and VAN HALEN songs (indeed, CINTRON would often play an entire VAN HALEN tribute set!), the group parted company with vocalist Larry Daithe in early 1982.
Cintron himself took over vocal duties, although bassist Greg Smith would be the next band member to quit. He was succeeded by Leo Greene.
With the new line-up, CINTRON cut and released a self-financed, four track EP. The record included a cover of CREEDANCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL's 'Fortunate Son' amongst band originals. CINTRON were, reportedly, due to be featured on Mike Varney's 'US Metal Volume II' compilation, but disagreements between the band and Varney over the choice of song led to the group's non-appearance.
In their time CINTRON played with a number of contemporary acts in the New York area, including TWISTED SISTER, ANVIL, RIOT and ZEBRA. A full length album was planned for release during 1983, but this seemingly failed to materialise.
Cintron has maintained a high profile since the demise of CINTRON in 1990. He performs in New York clubs with PYRAMID, a trio also comprising BLUE OYSTER CULT bass player Danny Miranda along with RAINBOW and BLACK SABBATH drummer Bobby Rondinelli. Cintron has also guested in the studio with BLUE OYSTER CULT. The guitarist would also make his mark with TRANS SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA's 2000 East Coast dates.
