Biography
A supremely heavy post millennium act led by erstwhile MANHOLE and TURA SATANA diva TAIRRIE B. Two acclaimed studio albums spawned the single SOFT CELL ultra-dark cover version 'Tainted Love' and the inclusion of 'Sick With It' to the Nicholas Cage '8mm' movie. The opening record 'Speak And Destroy', recorded in both the UK with BUSHWAQ acting as producers and in Los Angeles with production handled by DOWNSET guitarist Ares, found Tairrie B. in collaboration on the songwriting front with Melanie Makaiwi of THE PENNY DREADFULS. Bassist Anna Chaffee of THE PENNY DREADFULS also sessioned. Guitar contributions were delivered by Makaiwi and Lance Webber of MAN WILL SURRENDER. Sitting in on drums would be former MANHOLE and TURA SATANA colleague Marcello Palomino with bass credited to Meghan Mattox of THE NEWLYDEADS and NAKED AGRESSION.
The band, comprising Tairrie B. Makaiwi, Webber, Mattox and Palomino, toured Europe to support the record. With dates completed, and no US release as yet secured, Makaiwi opted out and Mick Murphy of MOVEMENT substituted for follow up album 'A Prayer Under Pressure...Of Violent Anguish'. Fans would revel in the incorporation of a duet between Tairrie B. and Jessicka of JACK OFF JILL on the track 'Miss Ann Thrope' as well as covers of BLACK FLAG's 'My War' and NICK CAVE's 'Do You Love Me?' For these sessions MY RUIN's rhythm section numbered Mattox on bass and Chris Hamilton of DOWNSET on the drums.
MY RUIN then unconventionally cut a live in the studio collection 'To Britain With Love And Bruises', released as the title suggests solely for the UK market. During October of 2001 MY RUIN replaced bassist Meghan Mattox with former NUM member Kenny Lowry. By February of 2002 Mattox was back in the ranks after her replacement Lowry made his exit. The band, signing to the Century Media label, cut a new studio album, billed as 'The Horror Of Beauty', in late 2002. During the same sessions cover versions of PJ HARVEY's 'Rid Of Me' and THE PLASMATICS' 'Sex Junkie' would also be taped. UK shows in November and December saw the band partnered with CHARGER and MURDER ONE.
MY RUIN acted as guests to SOIL's March 2004 US dates, after which bass player Meghan Mattox was unceremoniously ousted. His replacement would be announced as former ECHO 3, MAXIMUM PENALTY and SYSTEMATIC bassist Johnny Chow (a.k.a. John Mark Bechtel). The band then engaged in UK touring in May alongside WALLS OF JERICHO, bringing in Mat Dauzat of the band HYROVIGE for bass duties.
In August band sources stated MY RUIN was severing ties with Century Media, this split coming after the release of just one EP and album. Shortly afterward, it would be learned Johnny Chow had forged a brand new band unit in union with vocalist Dave Pullaro, PUSHED and STREAM guitarist Peter Scheithauer and the TESTAMENT, SLAYER, EVIL DEAD and HAVOCHATE credited John Dette on drums.
Following recording of the album 'Brutal Language Of Being In Love', MY RUIN parted ways with drummer Yael Benzaken and bassist Johnny Chow in February 2005, the latter joining FIREBALL MINISTRY. That May, new tracks were posted online. A fresh rhythm section of the SIMPLER MACHINE duo bassist Chris Lisee and drummer Jason Brunk was subsequently installed. Subsequently Matt LeChevalier took command of the drums.
MY RUIN and BLEED THE SKY teamed up for the Jagermeister sponsored 'Double Shot of Rock' US tour beginning with West Coast dates in July. 'Brutal Language Of Being In Love' saw release in Europe during November through Undergroove Records. Former MY RUIN drummer Yael Benzaken joined SAVATAGE guitarist CHRIS CAFFERY's solo band in March 2006.
MY RUIN were all set to commence fresh album recordings on September 29th. However, Tairrie B was involved in a serious car crash the day before, severely injuring her left arm. The singer was still undergoing skin graft surgery into mid October. Having fully recovered, Tairrie B and guitarist Mick Murphy were married on 24th December in Tennessee.
