Biography
'Metal' MIKE CHALSCIAK started his career with humble beginnings in New Jersey. The guitarist, a graduate of Berklee College of Music, had emigrated from Poland with his family during 1984 and started playing guitar in 1986, first making an impression with a 1991 demo cassette entitled 'Rock-Et Boulevard'. He released his debut solo album in 1996 on the small, specialty label Beyond Flat Nine Records under the moniker 'Isolation Chamber' subtitled 'Featuring Guitarist Mike Chlasciak'. Chlasciak handled virtually everything including writing, performing, recording and production. Guests on the album included Mark Busa on keyboards, and Paul Neider on vocals. The now relatively rare debut solo album was very atypical of an instrumental solo album by a guitar hero, as it had a very industrial, atonal and discordant feeling among the very aggressive guitar work. Chlasciak also handled some of the vocals on the album.
Chlasciak's second solo album entitled, 'Territory: Guitar Kill!!!' was issued in 2000, also on the Beyond Flat Nine imprint, a far more traditional album with a reworked version of 'Spill Your Own Rage' from his debut, some accoustic work as well as a cover of YNGWIE MALMSTEEN's 'Bedroom Eyes'. In 2001 he issued a third solo album, which was a collection of demo's and rarities from his early days called, 'The Spilling'. Again on the Beyond Flat Nine label, the album featured six cuts from his debut solo album all redone with new solos. It also featured some new compostions and a trio of demo cuts.
At the turn of the century the guitarist was catapulted into the forefront of the international Metal scene when hand picked to join then ex-JUDAS PRIEST vocalist rob Haford's solo band HALFORD for his critically acclaimed comeback album, 'Resurrection'. At this point Chlasciak never looked back, as his career with HALFORD took him across the world and back playing to huge audiences. Besides his HALFORD priorities he would also appear on many compilation and tribute albums including tributes to DEATH, JOE SATRIANI and the JASON BECKER homage 'Warmth In The Wilderness'. Chlasciak would also act as special guest on the 2003 CONSORTIUM PROJECT album, 'Terra Incognita (The Undiscovered World)'. In December he would also guest on HAMMERFALL vocalist Joacim Cans debut solo record and sessions for DREAM EVIL. During early 2004 Chlasciak donated his services to a tribute album 'Within The Mind' assembled by guitarist JAMES MURPHY in honour of the late DEATH mentor Chuck Schuldiner.
In 2004, when Rob Halford rejoined JUDAS PRIEST, Chlasciak put together a project named after a song he wrote nearly a decade prior, namely PAINMUSEUM, a collaboration with HATRED vocalist Tim Clayborne, TESTAMENT, DEATH and SADUS bassist Steve DiGiorgio and ICED EARTH and HALFORD drummer Bobby Jarzombek. This outfit released an album called 'Metal for Life' in November 2004. On top of his new act, Chlasciak toured with TESTAMENT in 2004 and across Europe in 2005 with SEBASTIAN BACH's solo band.
In August 2009 Chlasciak launched the 'Metal Heroes Music Academy', described as "the world's first heavy metal institution providing workshops, extended sessions and summer camps for metal players at all levels".
