Biography

A much vaunted AOR 'Superproject' band convened by WORLD STAGE vocalist and Barones pizza restaurant owner Joe Vana. The MECCA project saw lead vocal duties doled out to ex-TOTO and LE ROUX man FERGIE FREDERIKSEN. Guest backing vocals came courtesy of TRILLION's Thom Griffin. Others involved included SURVIVOR guitarist JIM PETERIK (also acting as producer), WORLD STAGE / CHICAGO guitarist Mike Aquino, TOTO bassist David Hungate and keyboard player Jimmy Nichols.

Vana would guest session on the 2002 debut album from former ALIBI man MICHAEL RIESENBACK 'Shouting Silence'. Both Vana and Griffin would also figure on the GENIUS 'Rock Opera' project album 'A Human Into Dreams World'.

The band was announced as appearing at the UK 'Gods' June 2002 concert but withdrew in mid May. Apparently drummer Shannon Forrest had a conflicting recording schedule with Country & Western star GARTH BROOKS in Nashville.

The debut Thom Griffin AMBITION project album of January 2003 would bear strong MECCA connections, being produced by Joe Vana and seeing MECCA personnel David Hungate and Shannon Forest as session guests. Mike Aquino would work with JIM PETERIK later that same year on his new PRIDE OF LIONS studio project.

MECCA made a return with a second album project in 2003, this time featuring TOTO guitarist STEVE LUKATHER in the ranks.
