Biography

Mark Boals is known as the ex-YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and BILLIONAIRE BOYS CLUB vocalist. The man had also played as bassist in TED NUGENT's live band of 1984. Boals released his first solo album in 1998. Boals rejoined Malmsteen's band in the late 90's and found time to cut a further solo effort in 2000. Joining the singer on 'Ring Of Fire' was the extreme guitar talent of TONY MACALPINE, ARTENSION keyboard player Vitalij Kuprij and PLANET X and FREAKHOUSE drummer Virgil Donati.

Boals assembled a live band titled RING OF FIRE of Kuprij, Donati, bassist Barry Dunaway and ARTENSION and MOGG/WAY guitarist George Bellas. This band, with Dunaway supplanted by STEVE VAI band bassist Phillip Brynoe, would become a solid group unit for the 2001 album 'The Oracle'.

In 2001 it was reported Boals was fronting a newly convened 'supergroup' entitled EMPIRE featuring former RAINBOW and OZZY OSBOURNE keyboard player DON AIREY, ex-WHITESNAKE and BLACK SABBATH bassist Neil Murray, former YNGWIE MALMSTEEN drummer Anders Johansson as well as Rolf Munkes and Lance King. Boals, Munkes and King would also all appear on the JASON BECKER tribute album 'Warmth In The Wilderness'.

Boals would session on the 2002 LANA LANE opus 'Project Shangri La'. A new solo album 'Edge Of The World' was undertaken the same year, Boals drafting such guests as ERIK NORLANDER, TONY MACALPINE, ex-HERO guitarist Neil Citron, former BLACK SABBATH and DIO drummer Vinny Appice and PLANET X drummer Virgil Donati.

In mid 2004, whilst working on a new RING OF FIRE album, Boals also donated his vocals to two tracks on Japanese guitarist TAKAYOSHI OMURA's debut album 'Nowhere To Go'. Whilst conducting a series of vocal clinic gigs in Japan during September Boals took time out to guest onstage with Omura at the Shibuya O-West in Tokyo, performing three songs then encoring alongside erstwhile RAINBOW vocalist Doogie White. Boals would also work on Tomio Terada's conceptual album 'Flight Of The Soul', featuring on the song 'Tempestus Rex', and on further recordings for MATTSON. In early 2005 Boals vocalised on the track 'Deep In The Shadows' included as part of LARS ERIC MATTSON's "non-fictional Rock Opera about the state of this planet we call Earth" WAR.
