Biography

Claiming to hail "from the North", WARLORD plied classical, bombastic Hard Rock from the less than mysterious climes of Los Angeles. Despite limited releases WARLORD, founded by erstwhile RUSSIAN ROULETTE drummer 'Thunder Child' (a.k.a. Mark Zonder) and guitarist 'Destroyer' (William J. Tsamis), soon garnered a cult following among dedicated Metal fans. With a theatrical stage show that embellished the grandiose musical approach, WARLORD, by which time they had become a quartet with the addition of latter day SAHARA keyboard player 'Sentinel' (Diane Arens Kornarens) and singer 'Damien King' (Jack Rucker), were picked up by Brian Slagel's Metal Blade Records after the then Oz Records store owner had heard the WARLORD demo track 'Winds Of Thor'. Their inauguration into the world of vinyl came with the inclusion of 'Lucifer's Hammer' onto the 'Metal Massacre II' compilation. The group also featured on the third 'Metal Massacre' installment with 'Mrs. Victoria'. They debuted proper with a six track album entitled 'Deliver Us' in April 1983, this outing reaping ecstatic praise from the international metal community.

With the recruitment of a new Texan vocalist Rick Cunningham, dubbed 'Damien King II', and bassist 'Archangel' (Dave Watry), WARLORD returned to action with the 'Lost And Lonely Days' 12" in 1984. This would be followed by the more ambitious 'And The Cannons Of Destruction Have Begun' that October. Cunningham would be replaced on lead vocals by Rick Anderson, or 'Damien King III' as the band delivered its swan song compilation, 'Thy Kingdom Come', in December 1986. With WARLORD's collapse Zonder teamed up with Progressive Metal band FATES WARNING.

A full decade later the track 'Child Of The Damned' would later be covered by Sweden's HAMMERFALL for their groundbreaking 1997 retro-metal revival album 'Glory To The Brave'. King reciprocated by guesting on HAMMERFALL's follow up 'Legacy Of Kings'. The HAMMERFALL connection would not end there as it was announced that WARLORD had been reformed by guitarist William J. Tsamis and drummer Mark Zonder in mid 2001 with HAMMERFALL vocalist Joacim Cans fronting the entire affair.

The long awaited comeback album 'Rising Out Of The Ashes' was duly delivered in July of 2002. Taking onboard Italian management a fresh live band found Joacim Cans, Mark Zonder and William J. Tsamis joined by second guitarist Paolo Viani of BLACK JESTER and MOONLIGHT CIRCUS, keyboard player Daniele Soravia of MOONLIGHT CIRCUS and HELREIDH and SIGMA bassist Pasko. The band was signed to appear at the annual German 'Wacken Open Air' festival as a co-headline act.

During 2005 it was revealed that WARLORD drummer Mark Zonder had fired up a new band endeavour, billed TEMPLEWITHIN, later re-branded SLAVIOR, in collaboration with MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP guitarist/keyboard player Wayne Findlay and the VALHALLA, MASI and HAWK credited vocalist David Fefolt. Also involved in these sessions would be the TRIBE OF GYPSIES credited singer Gregg Analla. Signing to Greece's Black Lotus Records SLAVIOR cut the debut album 'Slavior', but would release themselves from contract.
