Biography

Although promoted as a fresh act in a similar mould to THE DARKNESS, the 2004 Metal Blade signing was in fact eighties Heavy Metal band LIZZY BORDEN in an all new guise. STARWOOD, taking their band title from the renowned Hollywood club venue, comprised vocalist Lizzy (Borden), guitarist Joe Steals, bassist Marten Andersson and drummer Joey Scott (Scott-Harges). As STARWOOD the band presented an all new image and sound.

The 2004 Metal Blade album 'If Ain't Broke - Break It!' would see guest keyboard contributions coming from ASIA's GEOFF DOWNES. Tracks, which included re-worked songs from from Lizzy's 90s act DIAMOND DOGS, would present a much more upbeat, radio friendly feel than the LIZZY BORDEN catalogue.

Borden and Scott were founder members of LIZZY BORDEN, having recorded seven albums previously commencing in 1984 with the 12" EP 'Give 'Em The Axe', this fact oddly neglected on the band's official biography. Steals had previously been a member of DIAMOND DOGS whilst Andersson had toured with the GEORGE LYNCH band in early 2004 and held a prior track record with LEGACY, JONAS HANSSON BAND and TAKARA. Quite bizarrely, official press releases came with a quite unique postscript advising the media that no changes be made to the text "unless verified for truth and accuracy by Starwoods management", presumably a reference to the complete omission of LIZZY BORDEN history.

STARWOOD lent support to UFO for a solo Californian gig in October before being set to join VINCE NEIL's announced November UK tour dates. However, these gigs would be cancelled just days before commencement.

US dates during early 2005 saw a touring partnership with GEORGE LYNCH, bassist Marten Andersson sharing duties with both bands. By October the band was back in the recording studio crafting a second album. STARWOOD had also scheduled a Japanese gig for 1st November, appearing alongside DOPE at the Tokyo 'Manic Panic' hairspray sponsored festival.

March 2006 delivered word that the axe was set to rise again as the LIZZY BORDEN, reverting back to their original brand and style, announced they were seeking a new guitar player to replace the late Alex Nelson. Days later Ira Black, from VICIOUS RUMORS, THE SIDEFX and HEATHEN, took the position as the group announced US tour dates for May backing W.A.S.P.

Marten Andersson contributed session bass guitar on OVERDRIVE and LOCOMOTIVE BREATH guitarist Janne Stark's November 2006 MOUNTAIN OF POWER tribute collection.
