Biography
Noted cult Los Angeles Hard Rock outfit. A founding member of W.A.S.P., SIN bassist Rik Fox (real surname Sulima-Suligowski), a native of Brooklyn, New York, was to appear as a member of Ron Keel's STEELER. Fox had carved a reputation for himself on the New Jersey Glam Rock scene with outfits such as VIRGIN, LUST then SIN.
Relocating to Los Angeles at the request of Blackie Lawless and his then act SISTER, Fox claims to have re-named the group W.A.S.P. in time to record their first set of demos. However, Fox would be ejected due to apparent "personal reasons". The bassist briefly joined Ann Boleyn's HELLION before being recruited into the ranks of Ron Keel's STEELER. Fox utilised the SIN brand once more in the Summer of 1983, pulling together a band unit of vocalist Art Deresh, guitarist Howard Drossin, keyboard player Vincent Gilbert and drummer Carl James. However, the band would evolve into JAGWIRE, having allegedly sacked Fox from his own band and replacing him with ex-ROUGH CUTT bassist Joey Cristofanilli. In 1984 Fox reforged SIN in an apparent creative endeavour to fuse key elements of ANGEL and JUDAS PRIEST, this new version of the band featuring ex-ALIEN members vocalist Frank Starr, guitarists J.J. Kristi and Ritchie Martel alongside Monterey Park drummer, Mark Anthony (Bencachea).
Early 1985 saw SIN in Encore Recording Studio's in Burbank working with VINNIE VINCENT INVASION and SLAUGHTER bassist Dana Strum for a demo session. SIN's recording line-up at this juncture saw Fox joined by vocalist Ric Reed. Although both Starr and Anthony contributed vocals and drums respectively, Fox alleged Strum had removed their performances, replacing them with that of Reed and an unknown session drummer. Guest vocalists for these sessions included VINNIE VINCENT INVASION man Mark Slaughter and Thayer and Patrick Young of BLACK N' BLUE.
Fox and Strum would have a major falling out though as the SIN mentor claimed their track 'On The Run' was "ripped off" by VINNIE VINCENT INVASION, being re-named 'Let Freedom Rock'. The demo also included the Marty Koopersmith penned 'We Got Your Rock', subsequently recorded by FREHLEY'S COMET.
SIN folded, the bassist joining Arizona's SURGICAL STEEL in 1986. The bassist was back in 1989 with THUNDERBALL featuring vocalist Kelly Reno, guitarist Joey Price and drummer Cecil Free. In later years Fox took a radical diversion from music, working with 'Living History' re-enactments as a cavalry persona of a Winged Hussar entitled "Chevalier Don Ryszard di Lis, Prince di Sulima, of Lechistan", a Polish Knight of 16th and 17th Century Renaissance/Baroque-era Europe.
