Biography

HARLOW was initially a Los Angeles studio project between vocalist Teresa Straley and keyboard player cum producer Pat Regan. The pair engaged BLACK N' BLUE guitarist Tommy Thayer, an acquaintance of Regan's from his work on BLACK N' BLUE's 'In Heat' album, to play on the demos following the failure of a previous guitar player to come up with the required goods.

When BLACK N' BLUE disintegrated, Thayer began to become more involved in recording with Straley and Regan, no doubt encouraged by the news that the project had gained a Warner Bros. deal on the strength of demos of songs that would, eventually, not even make the finished album.

At the time, Thayer was playing in a new group, AMERICAN MAN. Thayer suggested his friend and band mate Todd Jensen, a bassist who had been playing in AMERICAN MAN after just having relocated to Los Angeles from Portland. Jensen had also played with Thayer in pre BLACK N' BLUE outfit MOVIE STAR and also held DORO and SEQUAL credits. The rhythm section was soon completed with the addition of drummer Steven Klong.

The 1990 album features additional guitar work from former ROYAL COURT OF CHINA and AMERICAN MAN guitarist Brian Jennings, who would later team up with Thayer in SHAKE THE FAITH. Drums are also contributed by Xavier Muriel and former RANDY HANSEN band man Marc Nelson.

Following the record's release, Steven Klong was replaced for live work by ex-BREATHLESS and DONNIE IRIS drummer Kevin Valentine (a.k.a. Kevin Muriel / Xavier Muriel and ex-AMERICAN MAN) who also contributed to the recording of the drum tracks of the album in addition to Klong. Ex ONLY CHILD man Tommy Rude was also involved playing keyboards at one point.

After the almost inevitable disbandment of HARLOW due to poor sales and little in the way of touring, Jensen teamed up with the DAVID LEE ROTH band for a 1991 world tour then joined forces with JOURNEY guitarist NEAL SCHON's new outfit HARDLINE. Thayer joined SHAKE THE FAITH and Valentine wound up in SHADOW KING.

In early 1998 Pat Regan was the featured keyboard player on the STREAM album 'Nothing Is Sacred'. STREAM was a band project put together by German guitarist Peter Scheithauer and included contributions from ex-GIUFFRIA vocalist DAVID GLEN EISLEY and erstwhile KISS and BLACK SABBATH drummer Eric Singer, amongst others. Thayer famously substituted for ACE FREHLEY in Rock legends KISS. In 2004 Jensen resurrected his 80s outfit SEQUAL and would rejoin DAVID LEE ROTH for a second term of duty.
