Biography
A happy go lucky Hardcore band from California founded in 1980. The inaugural line up included former RED KROSS guitarist Greg Hetson, ex BLACK FLAG singer Keith Morris along with bassist Roger Rogerson (real name Roger Dowding) and drummer Lucky Lehrer. This version of the band cut the seminal 'Group Sex' album and forced their attentions onto POLICE manager Miles Copeland. The band were duly signed to Copeland's American label Faulty Records for a second set 'Wild In The Streets'.
Added former D.O.A. and BLACK FLAG drummer Chuck Biscuits in 1983. The departed Lehrer would aid BAD RELIGION for touring.
Biscuits deputized for DESCENDENTS the same year when their drummer Bill Stevenson was jailed.
CIRCLE JERKS had two of their tracks 'Coup D'Etat' and 'When The Shit Hits The Fan' included on the movie soundtrack to the cult 'Repo Man' film in 1984.
After leaving CIRCLE JERKS Chuck Biscuits joined BROWN SOUND with vocalist Bad Otis Link and ex PANTYSHIELDS members guitarist Nick and drummer Jeff Newlin. He would also briefly be a member of Lee Ving's FEAR, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, create FLOORLORDS then join DANZIG.
Joh Ingram took Biscuits place for the 'Golden Shower Of Hits' album after which the band lost Rogerson and Ingram. CIRCLE JERKS pulled in drummer Keith Clark (sometimes billed as 'Adolph') and bass player Zander Schloss. The latter had acted in the 'Repo Man' movie as 'Kevin The Nerd' and been involved with the San Francisco eclectic act THELONIOUS MONSTER.
In 1987 Schloss decamped to join RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and THE WEIRDOS. The late 80's found him as part of JOE STRUMMER's live band. Schloss created the duo TWO FREE STOOGES with drummer Bobby Schayer (later of BAD RELIGION) to support RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS on their 1991 American tour. Hetson joined BAD RELIGION, a band he had been a semi official member of for many years.
In later years Schloss has worked with MIKE WATT in 1995 and SCOTT WEILAND in 1998 as well as maintaining his acting career. Schloss also contributed heavily to the movie soundtrack for 'Tank Girl'.
CIRCLE JERKS regrouped in 1995 for the 'Oddities, Abnormalities And Curiosities' album. The record included a novel take on the SOFT BOYS 'I Wanna Destroy You' with 80's Pop starlet DEBBIE GIBSON on vocals! Keith Morris made his presence felt on the HENRY ROLLINS assembled 'West Memphis Three' benefit album 'Rise Above', lending lead vocals to a version of BLACK FLAG's 'Nervous Breakdown'.
