CHERIE CURRIE

Biography

Ex THE RUNAWAYS vocalist CHERIE CURRIE set to work on her solo album immediately after she quit the band in 1977. Mentor Kim Fowley and his guitar playing collaborator Steven T. went with her in a deal whereby the blonde bombshell kept her links with Mercury Records.

The album featured a duet with her sister Marie on the track 'Love At First Sight' and musical contributions from ex IRONHORSE drummer Mike Baird and soon to be TOTO bassist David Hungate.

1979 Cherie recorded an album with her twin sister Marie. Titled 'Messin' With The Boys' it gained a release through Mercury and was fairly popular in Germany.

Cherie got her first movie break in 1979 with a part in the 1980 released Casablanca movie 'Foxes', and briefly returned to the limelight in 1982 but in a somewhat bizarre fashion portraying a member of the Rayguns gang in a strictly low budget sci-fi movie titled 'Parasite'. It has been reported that she lost a lot of other movie parts due to her ongoing battle with drink and drugs, addictions that had plagued her life since THE RUNAWAYS.

Nevertheless, Currie played with ex RUNAWAYS bandmate Sandy West in a club band for a period in the mid 80s. By the end of the decade a cleaned up Currie was working as a counsellor for young adults at Coldwater Canyon Hospital in Los Angeles

In 1990, Currie published her autobiography, 'Neon Angel: The Cherie Currie Story', co-written with Neil Shusterman. The book details her life with THE RUNAWAYS and her subsequent fall from grace as she battled against drug and alcohol dependency.

the time she was reported to have won a role playing, of all things, a drug crazed Rock guitarist in a movie entitled 'Rich Girl'.

During 1998 Currie recorded with THE STREETWALKIN' CHEETAHS on a cover of the seminal 'Cherry Bomb' released as a 7" single through Alive Total Energy Records.

Currie also featured on a tribute to BLONDIE album and appears as backing vocalist and keyboard player on KATT LOWE's debut album 'And The Othersyde'. 2000 found her with a new song 'Believe' recorded with ex HOUSE OF LORDS men guitarist Lanny Cordola and Chuck Wright with drummer Russ McKinnon in aid of the American Cancer Society.
