Biography

A straight ahead Metal band, Los Angeles' AXEHAMMER recorded an album's worth of material in late 1986 / early 1987 with an undisclosed, and allegedly, well known producer. A major deal looked as if it was a mere formality, but the whole thing fell apart and the tapes remained unreleased. The specialist independent label Sentinel Steel caught wind and wound up releasing five of the band's songs from the sessions together with three tracks from AXE HAMMER's 1984 demo tape.

AXEHAMMER had previously only appeared on the New Renaissance compilation album 'Satan's Revenge' with the track 'Axehammer' in the mid 80s.

The group had originally been formed in 1982 by guitarist Jerry Watt and bassist Kit Carlsen with the intention of putting together a European style Metal band. Recruiting drummer Mark Sky, the trio added a singer and cut a three song tape before parting company with him and eventually hooking up with Bill Ramp and second guitarist Jim Bratton. The track recorded for 'Satan's Revenge' (a compilation seemingly originally titled 'Metal Magic') featured Sky on drums, but not Bratton.

The drummer was to depart the group after the compilation appeared and this led to a brief period of inactivity as Watt and Carlsen decided to put the group on hold for around six months before reforming with Ramp and new skinsman Joe Aghassi. A decision was then taken to self-finance the recording of the aforementioned album in late 1986.

Needless to say, despite the appearance of the 'Lord Of The Realm' package in early 1998 AXEHAMMER split up long ago.
