Iowa Progressive Metal. For the 1996 'Amaranthine' album DEFYANCE comprised vocalist Brian Harrington, guitarist Marcus Peterson, bass player J.J. Wagner and drummer Doug Beary. The band line up evolved to include singer Scott Andreus and bassist Rob McGrath for 1999's 'Time Lost' opus.

The 2002 DEFYANCE album would see Lance King of BALANCE OF POWER acting as guest lead vocalist. Bass came courtesy of DEGREE ABSOLUTE's Aaron Bell. Beary also performs with technical Metal band DEGREE ABSOLUTE, appearing on their eponymous 2002 album.
