In 2005 Matt Pike of SLEEP and HIGH ON FIRE repute initiated a side venture dubbed SCUM ANGEL, subsequently switching this project's title to KALAS and signing to Tee Pee Records for a debut album. Working with John Kuker as producer KALAS commenced work on the record in November.

The KALAS band unit saw Pike fronting up Andy Branton, of ECONOCHRIST, GRIMPLE and SAMIAM, plus Paul Kott, from CRUEVO, HIGH TONE SON OF A BITCH, on guitars, bassist Brad Reynolds with Scott Plumb of CRUEVO on drums. The group toured in union with SAVIOURS across the USA in March 2006.
