Biography
One of JOHNNY THUNDERS post NEW YORK DOLLS troubled outfits. Following on from the debut album from THE HEARTBREAKERS 1977's 'L.A.M.F.' and JOHNNY THUNDERS solo 1978 album 'So Alone' a decision was made to resurrect THE HEARTBREAKERS albeit retitled JOHNNY THUNDERS AND THE HEARTBREAKERS. The mid 1978 union was intended as a vehicle to finalise a series of 'farewell' shows.
Rejoining Thunders were original members guitarist Walter Lure and bassist Billy Rath along with new drummer Styx. The act's original drummer Jerry Nolan, by then a member of THE IDOLS, also managed to sit in for a handful of gigs.
The band would fold again in before 1979 was out as Thunders formed a union with former MC5 guitarist WAYNE KRAMER for their short lived GANG WAR act. Rath was also a short term member of GANG WAR.
would join IGGY POP for his 'Soldier' tour prior to reuniting with Lure to forge THE HEROES. By 1982 Thunders was back as a solo artist although retaining the services of Lure.
The 1991 release 'Live At The Lyceum' was recorded during the band's British 1984 tour.
After a career blighted by drug abuse Thunders would finally succumb to his highly charged lifestyle in New Orleans on 22 April 1991. The guitarist, who had also unknowingly been suffering from leukemia, had been robbed in his hotel room and left for dead.
