Biography

Despite never releasing any form of product beyond the various demo tapes that managed to leak out onto the tape trading circuit in the 1980's, L.A. ROCKS nevertheless should not be overlooked. After the group evolved into EYES and scored a major deal with Curb Records, the Los Angeles AOR act worked with some of the highest regarded vocal talents in Hollywood.

Formed by drummer Aldy Damien in 1986, L.A. ROCKS' first vocalist was Jim Wilkinson, better known in later years as LOVE/HATE front man JIZZY PEARL. A respected figure in Los Angeles, Wilkinson had previously worked with JOSHUA. With Wilkinson then joining DATA CLAN, L.A. ROCKS hired Andy Koto for something in the region of five months before then ex-YNGWIE MALMSTEEN vocalist MARK BOALS played some showcase gigs with the band.

After working with WARRIOR vocalist Parramore McCarty for an equally brief period, L.A. ROCKS went through ex-MALICE man Mark Weitz and ROB LAMOTHE, recording demos for Capitol Records with the RIVERDOGS singer, before JEFF SCOTT SOTO sang with the group between stints singing for YNGWIE MALMSTEEN.

After Soto went back to working with Yngwie, L.A. ROCKS recruited JAMES CHRISTIAN and recorded some highly rated material as the transition to EYES was made. The band line-up at the time featured Damien, Christian, ex-ROUGH CUTT bassist Matt Thorr and erstwhile BERLIN keyboard player Todd Jasmin. Also involved at one stage would be latter day GIUFFRIA bassist Chuck Wright.

Christian later enjoyed a flush of success with HOUSE OF LORDS, then created MANIC EDEN with former WHITESNAKE refugees before going solo. Post DATA CLAN, Pearl found commercial success with LOVE/HATE before joining RATT for the 1990s. He would also front both L.A. GUNS and ADLER'S APPETITE.
