A free form Rock co-operative of KYUSS members, various offshoot acts and friends. The albums were originally issued in 10” vinyl form before being re-assembled for CD release. Instigator Josh Homme's (KYUSS / QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE) utilized the talents of SOUNDGARDEN's Ben Shepard, MONSTER MAGNET's John McBain, Chris Goss from MASTERS OF REALITY and KYUSS / FU MANCHU man Brant Bjork. Other participants included FATSO JETSON's Mario and Larry Lalli as well as Jess Hughes, Craig Armstrong, Tom Holton, Cole Leu from THE EAGLES OF DEATH METAL.

The first record, 'Desert Sessions Volume 1: Instrumental Driving Music' emerged as a 10” release on Man's Ruin during 1997 with the second effort 'Ship's Commander Butchered' delivered the following year. With interest in the project escalating quickly these two sessions would be repackaged onto a single CD the same year.

The DESERT SESSIONS track 'Monster In My Parasol', co-written by Josh Homme and FATSO JETSON's Mario Lalli- originally found on 'Desert Sessions Volume IV: Hard Walls And Little Trips', would re-appear in a new guise recorded by the QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE for their 2000 album 'Rated R'.

'Desert Sessions Volumes 7 & 8' would be issued in a double 10” vinyl gatefold as well as the regular CD release. The vinyl version came split into black and white albums. The track 'Hanging Tree' on would see lead vocals from SCREAMING TREES man Mark Lanegan. Others involved numbered Alain Johannes and Natasha Schneider of ELEVEN and the CHRIS CORNELL band, Samantha Maloney of MȪTLEY CRÜE and HOLE, Brendan McNichol of QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, Nick Eldorado of LIKE HELL, Fred Drake of THE EARTHLINGS and Chris Goss.
