Biography
This supergroup of veteran rockers, vocalist / guitarist RICK DERRINGER, bassist TIM BOGERT and drummer CARMINE APPICE, formed in the summer of 2000. The members boast of incredible laundry list of bands they have been involved with over the past three decades, including VANILLA FUDGE, ROD STEWART, BLUE MURDER, OZZY OSBOURNE and KING KOBRA plus many solo and guest endeavours. The rhythm section's most prominent achievement had been five highly praised albums with VANILLA FUDGE between 1967 and 1969. The pair then forged CACTUS with guitarist Jim McCarty and vocalist Rusty Day.
Derringer's debut solo album, 'All American Boy', was released in 1973, after which the RICK DERRINGER BAND pumped out albums 'Derringer', 'Sweet Evil', 'If I Weren't So Romantic I'd Shoot You' and 'Face To Face' during the latter half of the seventies. In 1983 RICK DERRINGER released his second solo album, 'Good Dirty Fun'. Throughout the 70's and 80's the guitarist guested on a wealth of albums by the likes of KISS ('Lick It Up' and 'Destroyer'), TODD RUNDGREN, MEAT LOAF and ALICE COOPER. Derringer and Appice had united earlier, having formed D.N.A. together with bassist Jimmy Johnson and keyboard player Duane Hitchings. Despite the pedigree, D.N.A. released the 1983 'Party Tested' album to a somewhat indifferent response. Leading up the formation of D.B.A. the six-stringer had been prodigious in his output of solo Blues works such as 'Back To The Blues', 'Electra Blues', 'Blues Deluxe' and his 2000 set 'Jackhammer Blues'.
The debut D.B.A. album came out on the German SPV label in April 2001 and was billed as a follow up to the classic 1973 album from BECK, BOGERT & APPICE. The 'Doin' Business As" album also featured NIGHT RANGER's KELLY KEELING on guest vocals and keyboards. The lead vocals were shared equally among the three principal members.
Confusingly, a Hip Hop band, also titled D.B.A., coincidentally entitled their album 'Doin' Business As...'
