Biography

Prolific Mid-West group led by guitarist MICHAEL STANLEY who began his career as a solo artist but eventually formed the MICHAEL STANLEY BAND for the 'You Break It, You Bought It' album that included Jonah Koslen, later to make his mark with JONAH KOSLEN & THE HEROES, in the line-up. Along with Stanley and Koslen the album included bassist Daniel Pecchio and drummer Tom Dobeck. 1976's 'Ladie's Choice' maintained the same line-up.

Born Michael Stanley Gee in 1948, his formative steps into the music business would be taken with mid 60s act THE SCEPTERS. Joining the TREE STUMPS he enjoyed his first commercial outing with a 1969 7" single 'Listen To Love'. This band evolved into the Folk orientated SILK for an album 'Smooth As Raw Silk'. Stanley's break as a solo artist, being discovered by producer Bill Szymczyk, came whilst he still held both family and work commitments, employed as a regional manager in charge of twelve record stores and being married with two children. Nevertheless, the 1973 'Michael Stanley' album released on Tumbleweed Records soon made an impact. Not only did the track 'Rosewood Bitters' score a high radio profile but the record included such high profile guest sessioneers as Joe Vitale, JOE WALSH, RICK DERRINGER and TODD RUNDGREN. Another impressive cast, including Dan Fogelberg, featured on the MCA follow up, 'Friends & Legends' issued that same year.

1977's MICHAEL STANLEY BAND double live package 'Stage Pass' featured the touring band of Stanley, Koslen, Pecchio, Dobeck and keyboard player Bob Pelander. Koslen quit the group after this release to form BREATHLESS, his place being taken by Gary Markasky for 1978's Mutt Lange produced 'Cabin Fever' record.

The band's line-up altered for 1979's cleverly titled 'Greatest Hints'. Out went Pecchio to be substituted by Michael Gismondi and the unit augmented their sound with a second keyboard player Kevin Raleigh. By the time of 1983's Bob Clearmountain produced 'You Can't Fight Fashion' lead guitarist Danny Powers had been enrolled taking Markasky's place. The MICHAEL STANLEY 2000 solo album 'Eighteen Down' would employ former ALL SPORTS BAND guitarist Cy Sulak.
