Biography

Punk band CHYNA's inaugural 1987 line up comprised of vocalist M.M., guitarist Jon Carcich, bassist Kong Lau, keyboard player Joseph Jay, saxophonist Mike Herman and ex SAMHAIN drummer Steve Zing. The latter took over lead vocal duties in 1988 as the band also added second guitarist Peter Lee.

Zing, Carcich and Jay were all previously with MOURNING NOISE.

Later the same year another ex MOURNING NOISE man Chris Marino (a.k.a. Chris Morance) took over on bass and guitar duties were handled by Joey Barbarisi. Lau and Lee soon made a return. A further shuffle saw CHYNA pulling in drummer Johnnie Rago to allow Zing to concentrate on lead vocals as ex UNDEAD member Brian Aliano took over on bass. With his previous band Aliano was known as Brian Payne.

shift witnessed Lee manouevering over to bass and Leo Madraz taking over on guitar. CHYNA line up ructions were far from over though as in 1989 Christian Borre came in on guitar. The following year Lee decamped and the bassist's slot was filled by Tommy Hunter. Before the end of the year Borre was ousted in favour of Al Rocque.

1992 found CHYNA's shuffles resulting in Rocque bailing out as Elio Tomasi came in on lead guitar. Rago was also out of the line up briefly and in the interim Victor Filonovich deputized. With Rago back in the fold but with Herman having departed CHYNA cut the 1995 'In The Night' album.

The band remained stable until June of 1999 when Hunter lost his place to John Anderson. This union was fleeting and soon bass guitar was in the hands of Dan Tracey. Steve Falco took Tommasi's role in October and by December Hunter had reinstated himself on bass.
