Biography

Prior to joining THE BABYS and, ultimately, JOURNEY, keyboard player and song writer Jonathan Cain had enjoyed a career back in his native Chicago. He had first made his presence felt in 1969 as part of THE STONE CIRCUS, the group releasing an eponymous album that year. The JONATHAN CAIN BAND, releasing a solitary album through Bearsville in 1977, featured the keyboard player's brother Tommy on drums. During 1978 Cain usurped Mike Corby in the highly rated UK act THE BABYS. After a string of hits this band folded in 1981 and Cain jumped over to the multi-platinum AOR act JOURNEY, first featuring on their massively successful 'Escape' album.

Taking time out from JOURNEY Cain put his creativity into his then wife's TANE CAIN's 1983 solo record and donated his services to SAMMY HAGAR's 'Three Lock Box' the same year. That same year JOURNEY dominated the charts with their 'Frontiers' album.

Following the break up of JOURNEY in 1986, after the 'Raised On Radio' opus, Cain teamed up with NEAL SCHON and old THE BABYS colleagues Ricky Phillips and JOHN WAITE in BAD ENGLISH to achieve massive success in America with the number 1 single 'When I See You Smile'.

Cain also managed to squeeze in studio work on MICHAEL BOLTON's 'The Hunger' album and formed part of the singer's touring band the same year. Cain also made his presence felt on a string of JIMMY BARNES albums.

After two BAD ENGLISH albums for Epic Cain threw himself into a new solo project, releasing the rather laidback style 'Back To The Innocence' album through the Swedish label Empire in 1994, featuring JOURNEY comrades NEAL SCHON and STEVE SMITH along with Mugs Cain and guitarist Lyle Workman. Cain would form up part of the JOURNEY reunion in 1996.
