Chicago Death Metal act CINERARY evolved from INCESTUOUS, an act founded in 1999 by ex GORGASM drummer Derek Hoffman. A series of line-up changes led to the solo INCESTUOUS release 'Brass Knuckle Abortion' after which the band opted for a name change to CINERARY.

Personnel at this point were ex DISGORGE vocalist Matti Way, former SMEGMA and CUMCHRIST guitarist Danny Louise ('Wrench'), Mike Dooley from CORPSE VOMIT on bass and DISGORGE drummer Rick Myers. Founder member Hoffman had rejoined GORGASM in January 2001 and would also be found deputizing for LIVIDITY.

Wrench also operated BRETHREN with ex-INCESTUOUS and DYSPHORIA vocalist 'Sick' Nick Hernandez, Jeff and Jim from CIANIDE and Nefarious of MACABRE. The September 2001 mini-album, 'Rituals Of Desecration'- the first release for the Deepsend label, found BRODEQUIN man Jamie Bailey on bass guitar.

In 2006 Rick Myers forged SARCOLYTIC alongside Steven Watkins, Mark Denton and Jon Zig from IMAGES OF VIOLENCE.
