Biography

A Californian Bay Area supergroup deliberately modelled on JOURNEY, and originally featuring ex-JOURNEY men GREGG ROLIE, Ross Valory and Steve Smith in the group. THE STORM provided the vehicle for ex-707 and STEELBREEZE singer Kevin Chalfant and erstwhile VELOCITY and LE MANS guitarist Josh Ramos to take their talents to the world.

Rolie had recorded a self-titled solo album in 1985 followed by his 'Gringo' effort and was the most instrumental in putting THE STORM together. The keyboard player had collaborated on material with Kevin Chalfant and sent the track 'Show Me The Way' to producer Beau Hill, who was heavily involved with Interscope Records at the time.

Chalfant joined Rolie and former JOURNEY bandmates bass player Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith in THE VIEW. Ex-BERLIN and MICHAEL BOLTON guitarist Stef Burnbaum was also involved in a band that had also include keyboard player Tim Gorman and ex -THE TUBES and JOURNEY drummer Prairie Prince at the turn of 1989. Burnbaum became STEF BURNS as a member of Y&T and ALICE COOPER.

Interscope was seriously interested in the project that had become THE STORM by 1991with Rolie and Smith fully involved. Josh Ramos was the last to join the fold. Ramos had also been a member of THE VIEW at one point. The first album, self-titled and released by Interscope, was produced by Beau Hill. The second album, 1995s 'Eye Of The Storm' issued through the major UK independent label Music For Nations, was completed with the aid of session musicians drummer Ron Wikso of FOREIGNER and Bob Marlette.

Kevin Chalfant released an independently issued solo album in late 1997 and was reported to be a leading candidate to replace STEVE PERRY in JOURNEY during 1998. Chalfont and Ramos reunited in 2000 to create TWO FIRES, issuing an album of the same name. The pair's act THE VIEW would finally see an album release 'Phoenix Rising' the same year retitled THE VU. Ramos would guest on the 2002 ROBERT FLEISCHMAN's 'World In Your Eyes' album and would also appear on the HARDLINE album release of the same year, appearing with the band live at the British 'Gods' festival the same year.

Later, during 2002 the guitarist revealed the formation of a fresh outfit simply billed as RAMOS. This new venture saw Ramos in collaboration with EYES vocalist Mark Weitz, ACCOMPLICE bassist Scott Snyder and drummer Atma Anur. Keyboard players Russ Greene and Michael T. Rossand fabled bass player Stu Hamm would also contribute.

2004 found Ron Wikso working with Gary Brandon of WHITE SISTER on his FAST MACHINE project.

A UK re-issue of THE STORM's 'Eye Of The Storm' through Krescendo Music was to be condemned by the band as unofficial.
