Biography

Brooklyn hybrid Metal, Hardcore and Gothic act. Originally simply billed as PISTON the group, created by vocalist / guitarist Henry Font and bassist Val.ium, debuted in 1993 with a two song demo, with Dave Femia on drums. Further sessions, dubbed 'Urine The Money', would be produced by Josh Silver of TYPE O NEGATIVE at New York's Rabbi In The Sky Studios. The band also had the track 'Exhume Her' included on a Metal Blade Records 'Metal Massacre 12' compilation in 1995.

Signing to Fierce Records in May 1996, the 'Number One' album, recorded at Systems Two Studios with Silver behind the production desk once again, saw license across Europe through Music For Nations. Marking out their genre defying ethos, 'Number One' included a cover version of THE SMITHS 'Shoplifters Of The World Unite'. Following recording of the album both guitarist Paul Poulos and drummer Danny Jam Kavaldo exited, being replaced by Burton Gans on guitar and Jeff McManus. PIST. ON acted as support to LIFE OF AGONY's Winter 1995 European tour dates. The ongoing TYPE O NEGATIVE connections would be further strengthened when Val.Ium contributed backing vocals to the track 'In Praise Of Bacchus' on the 'October Rust' album.

The group was notably picked up by Atlantic Records, the corporation switching the band name back to the original PISTON for a re-release of 'Number One', and featured on high profile tours supporting the likes of MARILYN MANSON, TYPE O NEGATIVE and QUEENSRYCHE. Whilst in the midst of an American tour, billed alongside FU MANCHU, drummer Jeff McManus suffered chronic muscular pains. A respiratory illness was diagnosed and PIST. ON rounded off the set of dates with TYPE O NEGATIVE skinsman Johnny Kelly stepped into the breach.

A second PIST.ON album, '$ell.Out' produced by Daniel Rey at Baby Monster Studios and Spa Recording in New York, was delivered but promotion would be sparse. McManus quit in late 1999. A Michael Marciano produced EP, entitled 'Saves', emerged in 2001 but Val.ium, in many ways the group's focal point, decamped that August.
