Biography

Pioneering and highly revered Death Metal band from Illinois. IMPETIGO was created in 1987 as a trio of Stevo De Caixeo on vocals and bass, guitarist Mark and drummer Dan. Following the debut demo 'All We Need Is Cheez' second guitarist Scotty was added. A 1989 demo 'Giallo' secured a deal with German label Wild Rags. However, their new record company's printers refuse to press up sleeves for the debut album 'Ultimo Mondo Cannibale' fearing possible legal action. The local Bloomington council also banned the artwork deeming it obscene and pornographic. The album eventually emerged with toned down artwork, although the original design would emerge on a limited edition picture disc.

A now rare 7" single 'Biuo Omega' followed then a split EP shared with German band BLOOD and the 'Faceless' EP before a second full length outing 'Horror Of The Zombies'.

IMPETIGO only managed some 30 gigs during the band's lifetime before folding in 1993. De Caixeo later founded INSOMNIA but after recording an as yet unreleased album this act folded.

IMPETIGO's underground status was such that a 2000 tribute album 'Wizards Of Gore' emerged on Razorback Records featuring such artists as BLOOD DUSTER, MORTICIAN, IMPALED, DECEASED, EXHUMED and VASTION. In 2006 Razorback re-issued the first two IMPETIGO albums, adding extra live tracks, the 'Faceless' EP material and restoring 'Ultimo Mondo Cannibale' with its intended, banned, artwork. 'Horror Of The Zombies' too included added live recordings and artwork that was unused at the time.

Stevo De Caixo launched new band project CONVULSIONS in December 2006, an alliance with bassist Greg Mattingly of FORSAKEN, NOTHING and SON OF DOG and drummer Maniac Neil, of FRIGHTMARE, LORD GORE and BLOOD FREAK.
