Biography
A.P.B. was a band assembled by the renowned ex-LYNYRD SKYNYRD drummer Artimus Pyle. The A.P.B. title at various times standing for ALL POINTS BULLETIN or ARTIMUS PYLE BAND. Following the fatal 1977 plane crash that shattered the ranks of LYNYRD SKYNYRD, Pyle took quite some time to emerge back into public life re-debuting with his own act A.P.B. and the eponymous 1981 album, issued through MCA Records and produced by members of the MARSHALL TUCKER BAND in their home studios. Featured musicians would be guitarists John Boerstler and Steve Lockhart, bassist Steve Brewington and lead vocalist Darryl Otis Smith.
The sophomore release 'Nightcaller', issued in 1982, added Karen Blackmon as second lead vocalist and Lockhart made way for guitarist Rusty Milner. TOTO's Steve Porcaro and David Paich also contributed in the studio. Milner joined MARSHALL TUCKER BAND in 1985.
Pyle rejoined LYNYRD SKYNYRD but was forced to bow out after breaking his leg in a motorbike accident. He subsequently re-founded A.P.B. in the mid 90's with two other erstwhile LYNYRD SKYNYRD members guitarist Mike Estes and bassist Tim Lindsey. Estes departed to create DRIVIN' SIDEWAYS in 1997. The 1999 line-up was fronted by bassist Buzzy Meekins previously with MOLLY HATCHET and the DANNY JOE BROWN BAND whilst guitarist Phil Swindle is from BIG JIM & THE TWINS. A.P.B. issued the album 'Live From Planet Earth' and toured Britain the same year.
Outside of A.P.B., Pyle also employed his services with other acts including THE FENWICKS, THE TRUTH and THOSE GUYS, the latter including ex-MOLLY HATCHET bassist Banner Thomas. A.P.B. would still be operational on the live circuit in 2004, the band unit comprising RUFUS GROVE members vocalist / guitarist Jamie Dose, guitarist Dorsey Parker, bassist John Holder, keyboard player Mike Boling and drummer Davidson Wicker.
2005 found Pyle assembling a genuine 'all-star' collective dubbed DEEP SOUTH, fronted by WET WILLIE's Jimmy Hall and backed by 38 SPECIAL guitarist Jeff Carlisi, LYNYRD SKYNYRD's Ed King and the ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION duo of keyboard player Dean Daughtry and drummer Robert Nix.
