Biography

ZEPHYR is the band that guitar prodigy TOMMY BOLIN first gained notice with. The guitarist had started his career with DENNY & THE TRIUMPS and AMERICAN STANDARD. Prior to delivering their debut album, ZEPHYR had notably put in a three night support stand to LED ZEPPELIN in May 1969. Bolin quit ZEPHYR to form ENERGY. This act was short-lived and was followed by a fruitful liaison with THE JAMES GANG on the 'Bang' and 'Miami' albums before replacing RITCHIE BLACKMORE in DEEP PURPLE.

For the 1972 album 'Sunset Ride' Bolin was replaced by guitarist Jock Bartley. Keyboard player John Farris and drummer Robbie Chamberlain also lost their places to Dan Smith and P.M. Wooten respectively.

Following ZEPHYR's demise Bartley founded FIREFALL achieving substantial chart success. The Givens brothers attempted a reformation of the group in 1977, but this came to naught.
