Biography
JUNGLE ROT's own particular brand 'Deathgroove', along with their themed album cover artwork's based on the ubiquitous figure of Sergeant Rot, has set them apart from the pack. The band, named after the Vietnamese war version of trenchfoot, arrived in 1994 with a line up of vocalist / guitarist Jim Bell, vocalist / guitarist Dave Matrise, bassist Chris Djurcic and ex-PRISONER drummer Jim Harte.
With this line up JUNGLE ROT cut the opening demo 'Rip Off Your Face'. A second demo, 1996's 'Skin The Living', witnessed such a volume of sales that the sessions were re-released on CD format in 1998 by Pure Death Records. A latter line-up saw the percussion station taken by erstwhile EVIL INCARNATE man Andy Vehnekamp.
JUNGLE ROT's second album 'Slaughter The Weak' was originally issued by Pulverizer Records in 1998. Label problems saw a swift re-release, with different artwork, the following year by Pavement Records. Meantime a third round of artwork graced the European version licensed to Germany's Morbid Records with the original depictions of dead bodies removed.
With JUNGLE ROT on a roll a mini-album 'Darkness Foretold' was quickly released. The record included the brand new title track, live material and cover versions of CARNIVORE's 'Jesus Hitler', SLAYER's 'Fight Till Death' and SODOM's 'Agent Orange'. This record has proven to be quite a collectors item as it it came with a JUNGLE ROT 'Sergeant Rot' comic the cover of which is covered in the by now expected, entrails, brains and gouged eyes.
JUNGLE ROT underwent a major line-up overhaul when founding member Jim Bell departed. Former CYANOSIS man Kevin Forsythe took the role and his CYANOSIS colleague Jim Garcia took the drum position from previous encumbent Shawn Johnson.
Keeping up with tradition JUNGLE ROT's 2001 album 'Dead And Buried', released on Olympic Records, saw a European license through Season Of Mist Records but with the artwork (you guessed it- dead bodies!) revised to accommodate the censor. A 2004 album, 'Fueled By Hate', emerged through Olympic in June.
Guitarist Chris Djuricic lent his bass skills to Chicago Thrash combo HURTLOCKER during the recording sessions for their new demo 'Begging for Hatred'. JUNGLE ROT would act as openers to the September / October nationwide tour from the heavyweight package comprising DEICIDE, CATTLE DECAPITATION and GOATWHORE.
The band helped forge a heavyweight road alliance, suitably dubbed 'European Decimation', took in April 2005 gigs throughout Italy, Portugal, the UK, Holland and Germany in partnership with CATASTROPHIC, FUNERUS, HEXENHAMMER and INCANTATION. Canadian gigs in June had the group, now featuring FLESHGRIND bassist James Genenz in the guitar role, sharing stages with a package billing of HATE ETERNAL, KRISIUN INTO ETERNITY and ALL SHALL PERISH. The band, signing a new label deal with Crash Music, parted ways with guitarist Genenz in September, re-enlisting former touring stand in Geoff Bub.
JUNGLE ROT, re-enlisting James Genenz, this time on bass guitar, entered the recording studio in February 2006 to cut new album 'War Zone'. Promoting the record, issued in June, JUNGLE ROT partnered with HURTLOCKER, DESOLATION and DEICIDE for US touring throughout September and October.
In November 2008 JUNGLE ROT inked a deal with Austria's Napalm Records. The band entered Studio One in Racine, Wisconsin with longtime engineer Chris Djuricic on 26th December 2008 to record the album 'What Horrors Await' for release in April 2009. This set featured the DESTRUCTION cover version 'Invincible Force'. That September the group supported SIX FEET UNDER in Europe.
