Essentially a tribute to the late MOTHER LOVE BONE vocalist Andrew Wood, TEMPLE OF THE DOG featured SOUNDGARDEN's Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron and the PEARL JAM trio of Mike McCready, Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard. The latter duo had been members of MOTHER LOVE BONE. The band delivered a solitary 1991 album.

A notable 2003 PEARL JAM gig was held in Santa Barbara, California during October as a fund raiser for the Louis Warschaw Prostate Cancer Centre. A brief TEMPLE OF THE DOG reunion saw PEARL JAM's former drummer Jack Irons, singer/songwriter Jack Johnson, guitarist Lyle Workman, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS guitarist John Frusciante and SOUNDGARDEN / AUDIOSLAVE frontman Chris Cornell delivering two tracks 'Hunger Strike' and 'Reach Down'.

In 2005, AUDIOSLAVE's live set notably included the TEMPLE OF THE DOG tracks 'Say Hello 2 Heaven' and 'Call Me A Dog'.
