VALKYRIE are Rockbridge County, Virginian Doom merchants founded in the Summer 2002 by vocalist / guitarist Jake Adams and bass player Eric Seaman with Luke Shafer on the drums. The trio set about gigging across Rockbridge County throughout 2002 and into 2004. Adam's brother Pete was then introduced on second guitar in February 2004. A radio session cut at the local college radio station was released as a five song demo. Shafer relocated to Nevada in April, being replaced by Mike Hoke. This new version of VALKYRIE crafted the 'Sunlight Shines' demo.

VALKYRIE would announce a split 7" single to be shared with VOG in November. Eric Seaman exited the following month. In January 2005 the group announced their new rhythm section of bassist Nick Crabill and drummer Nic McInturff. Signing to Twin Earth Records, VALKYRIE cut an album at the Polar Bear Lair in Maryland working with producer Chris Kozlowski. VALKYRIE subsequently inducted a fresh rhythm section of bassist Will Barry-Rec and drummer Gary Isom. The latter held a strong tradition on the Doom scene, citing membership of PENTAGRAM, IRON MAN, UNORTHODOX, WRETCHED, SPIRIT CARAVAN and NITROSEED.
