Biography
Texan Hard Rock band STRAY DOG were signed to EMERSON LAKE & PALMER's Manticore label, hence production credits on the first two albums, 'Stray Dog' and 'Fasten Your Seat Belts', being credited to Greg Lake. Louisiana born guitarist William Garret 'Snuffy' Walden had formed the band in 1968 as APHRODITE.
The 1973 debut featured a cover version of ZZ TOP's 'Chevrolet' and re-arranged take on BLOODROCK's 'Crazy 'Bout You Babe' re-titled 'Crazy'. A trio of vocalist / guitarist Snuffy Walden, bassist Alan Roberts and drummer Les Sampson, previously a member of Noel Redding's ROAD. The latter had replaced original drummer Randy Reeder, who declined an offer to relocate to the UK and instead joined the ranks of BLOODROCK. 'Fasten Your Seat Belts' included a cover version of THE BEATLES 'Drive My Car' and found FREE's John 'Rabbit' Bundrick guesting on organ and piano with Mel Collins on flute.
STRAY DOG added second guitarist Tim Dulaine (a.k.a. Tim Harrison), previously of BUCKWHEAT HONEY, and keyboard player Luis Cabaza for the third effort, the Austin Godsey produced 'While You're Down There'. Also featuring in the ranks would be ex-DARTAGNIAN guitarist / vocalist Chris McVey and drummer Joe Solina.
Snuffy Walden became a renowned session guitarist performing for numerous major artists. On the live front he toured with both the ERIC BURDON BANDand FREE. Pre-STRAY DOG he had laid down the guitars on the 1973 RABBITT album 'Broken Arrows'.Walden forged a highly successful career composing music scores for popuular television shows such as 'Thirtysomething', 'My So Called Life', 'The Wonder Years', 'Roseanne', 'Huff', 'George Lopez', 'Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip' and many others. In 2000 he won an Emmy for the Outstanding Achievement in Main Title Theme Music for his work on 'The West Wing'.
Roberts went on to AVALON for one album. McVey went on to form N.O.XQS , SCARLET O'HARA, RAREBREED then forged THOSE GUYS in Florida.
