Biography

Although hampered by low budget production SAMHAIN were the breeding ground from which GLENN DANZIG, having excised himself from Punk outrage merchants MISFITS, cultured ther dark brooding rock that would evolve into DANZIG. Early members included Lyle Preslar of MINOR THREAT and THE REPTILE HOUSE and THE MEATMEN drummer London May.

Danzig recruited another MISFITS refugee drummer EERIE VON to assume the bass role. Von had been post MISFITS a member of ROSEMARY'S BABIESreleasing the 'Blood Lust' album before enrolling in Hare Krishna Hardcore mongers ANTIDOTE where he adopted the spiritual stage name of 'Bliss'. Immediately prior to joining SAMHAIN Von was operating a studio project I'M AFRAID with ex-MOURNING NOISE guitarist Chris Morance and erstwhile ROSEMARY'S BABIESbassist Post Mortem. Guitarist Pete Marshall's pedigree includes GENOCIDE, where he went under the name Pistol Pete, and MOURNING NOISE. Bassist Steve Zing is also ex MOURNING NOISE.

1990's 'Final Descent' saw the inclusion of guitarist JOHN CHRIST later of DANZIG. Marshall joined BRAIN EATERS and DITCH WITCH. Zing created Punk band CHYNA reuniting with erstwhile MOURNING NOISE colleagues.

May founded LUNCHBOX in 1987 for the 'Jesus, Judas And Me' album then DEAD, WHITE AND BLUE in 1991 for a string of singles before DISTORTED PONY for the Steve Albini produced 'Punishment Room' album. During 1997 May was a member of THE AMAZING CHAN CLAN issuing the 'Meteor Shower' single.

EERIE VON issued a joint album credited to EERIE VON/MIKE MORANCE called 'Uneasy Listening' in 1996 and a solo album 'The Blood And The Body' in 1998.

SAMHAIN, with bassist London May replacing Eerie Von, reformed in 1999 for live work supporting DANZIG. Glenn Danzig performing two shows each night. October 2001 witnessed a double 7" vinyl tribute to SAMHAIN. Limited to just 500 copies 'The Rebirthing', issued by Spastmathic Records, crammed in no less than 10 bands paying homage.

Steve Zing joined the ranks of DANZIG for the West Coast "Blackest of The Black" live dates in November 2006.
