Biography
Pennsylvania Hardcore act CKY, established in 1998, found national recognition when their music was used for MTV's 'Jackass' show. Frontman Deron Miller had made first impressions on the local scene as a member of early 90s Metal band THIS END UP, featuring on the demos 'What Gives' in 1992, 'Where's Andy?' and 'Striving For Individualism' both in 1993 and 'Third Hand Fact' published in 1994. Miller's next move was to forge FOREIGN OBJECTS in union with drummer Jess Margera. This outfit self-financed the now highly sought after 1995 EP 'The Undiscovered Numbers & Colors'. With FOREIGN OBJECTS demise, Miller and Margera, together with bassist Andy Smith, founded Pop combo OIL. A demo, 'Gold', emerged in 1997 followed by an EP, after which hired Ryan Bruni to play bass. Toward the close of OIL's days the band briefly employed ex-IMPACT bassist Chad Ginsburg. OIL folded, with Ginsburg creating RUDI+BLITZ in 1993 with Dave Kloos and Dante Cimino on drums.
Meantime, Miller and Margera assembled an all new band. Billed as CAMP KILL YOURSELF, the band debuted with the 'Volume 1' album released via TM International in 1999. Initially Ryan Bruni handled bass duties, including a showing on the 1999 'Vans Warped' tour, but was unceremoniously sacked and replaced by Ginsburg A follow up, 'Volume 2', was delivered the same year. The debut record was subsequently re-issued by Volcom Entertainment in April 2000 re-credited to CAMP: CKY, then once again in October that same year as CKY 'Camp Volume 1'. In June of 2000 CKY added a new member in bassist Vernon Zaborowski.
Having signed to Island Records the record saw yet a further re-issue in June of 2001, clad in orange, purple and blue covers. CKY's second opus, 'Infiltrate.Destroy.Rebuild', arrived through Island in September 2003. The June 2005 album 'An Answer Can Be Found' shifted over 27,000 copies in its first week of US sales to debut at no. 35 on the national Billboard charts.
The band pulled in former ALL THAT REMAINS bassist Matt Deis as touring bassist, making their live debut in this formation on 18th July at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California, albeit under the pseudonym of HAPPY BIRTHDAY PHIL. During the Summer the band united with FIREBALL MINISTRY and THE KNIVES for the Adio Footwear sponsored 'Rock Adio' tour. UK gigs in September saw CLUTCH as opening act. CKY returned to the road in North America during November, taking out Stoners FIREBALL MINISTRY as support. US gigs in January 2006 saw support to AVENGED SEVENFOLD. CKY parted ways with Island Records, claiming they had been attempting to sever the relationship since 2003.
Following CKY European dates Deron Miller announced the formation of side venture WORLD UNDER BLOOD. The project involved drummer Tim Yeung, of VITAL REMAINS and HATE ETERNAL repute. On October 27th the musicians entered a Los Angeles studio to cut three tracks working with former MACHINE HEAD, MEDICATION and SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader as engineer.
