Biography

Founded in 1999, the Philadelphia based SINGLE BULLET THEORY featured the former CIPHER trio of guitarists Matt Difabio and Doug Rush with vocalist Mark Shveima Jr. The band's original formation also counted bassist Steve Kilp and drummer John Sasso. However, Dave Brown subsequently took the lead vocal position and SEVEN WITCHES bassist Bill Mez replaced Kilp. Although the group initially employed two lead vocalists in succession Difabio had taken the frontman role for the album 'Route 666', the band having dispensed with Brown following road work in 2002 with SOILWORK and HYPOCRISY. As well as his industry with SINGLE BULLET THEORY, Difabio increased his workload further by becoming a member of PISSING RAZORS.

SINGLE BULLET THEORY would head up the heavily sponsored August 'Crash Music' 2003 US tour partnered with BRICKBATH, NDE and guests SHADOWDANCE. Later shows saw the band hooking up with KING DIAMOND, ENTOMBED and NOCTURNE. Whilst in pre-production stages for a new album in January of 2004 drummer John Sasso bailed out. Guitarist Matt Difabio exited PISSING RAZORS in February of 2004, his priorities with SINGLE BULLET THEORY taking precedence. The band persevered minus a drummer, utilizing the services of KING DIAMOND, BAT CASTLE, SHAOLIN DEATH SQUAD and AUTUMN SILENCE man Matt Thompson during the recording sessions for a new studio record. Recording for 'Behind Eyes Of Hatred', being engineered and mixed by the DEATH, CANCER, DISINACARNATE and TESTAMENT credited guitarist JAMES MURPHY and including a cover of METAL CHURCH's 'Badlands', took place between March and April at Angry Chair Recordings in Glenside, Pennsylvania.

Doug Rush ended a lengthy tenure with the band in July, SINGLE BULLET THEORY drafted SHADOWDANCE guitarist Carlos Alverez as replacement. Matt Difabio also made time to act as session guest of former HADES man DAN LORENZO's solo album of that year 'Nice Being Alone'.

March of 2004 found SINGLE BULLET THEORY partnering with AMORPHIS, BEYOND THE EMBRACE and INTO ETERNITY for dates across North America. Upon completion of these shows the band split away from Crash Music Inc. In mid 2005 SINGLE BULLET THEORY would be joined by the POLTERCHRIST credited Dan Loughry on guitar. Working with studio drummers John Sasso and Jason Dunkerly, the band commenced work on a new studio album in June. Former drummer John Sasso was re-drafted in August. That same month guitarist Matt Difabio announced he had joined forces with PISSING RAZORS frontman Andre Acosta in a new band unit dubbed PREFACE. Also involved would be John Chernoski on guitar, Jason Dunkerly on drums and Bill Mez on bass.

SINGLE BULLET THEORY drafted drummer Darrin Patrick, from Progressive Metal band ETERNITY X and North Jersey's SMOTHER THERESA, into the ranks in December 2005.

Jack Frost, of SEVEN WITCHES, THE BRONX CASKET CO. and SAVATAGE, contributed a guest guitar solo to the 'Divine Ways Of Chaos' 2009 album. The drums were tracked in Chattanooga, Tennessee whilst the remaining sessions were laid down at Signal Sound Studios in Quakertown, Pennsylvania with Pete Davis.
