Biography

Solo works from CHRIS CAFFERY, noted for his contributions to ambitious Power Metal act SAVATAGE. The band had added former HEAVEN guitarist Caffery for live work to promote their 1987 'Hall Of The Mountain King' album, guesting for DIO and MEGADETH in America and a European date at the legendary Aardschock Festival in Holland. With the completion of these dates Caffery would join DIRTY LOOKS for 1988's 'Turn Of The Screw' but would make a return to SAVATAGE and by recording of the 1989 'Gutter Ballet' album the guitarist had earned his stripes becoming a full time member. Although Caffery missed out on subsequent SAVATAGE releases he did ally himself with frontman Jon Oliva for his 1994 DOCTOR BUTCHER outing, thus paving a way back into the SAVATAGE ranks for 1995's 'Dead Winter Dead', 1996's 'From The Gutter To The Stage', 1997's 'The Wake Of Magellan' and 'Poets And Madmen' in 2001.

Other activities found him featuring on the SUN RED SUN sessions, as part of Lars Ratz METALIUM project band's first album 'Millenium Metal', tour and record with the TRANS SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA, guest on DORO's 2002 'Fight' opus' and, as a songwriter, contributed to the debut CIRCLE II CIRCLE album. In 2004 the guitarist signed a deal with Greece's Black Lotus Records for the release of his debut solo album 'Faces'.

The guitarist announced plans for touring in 2005, his live band to include singer Paul LaPaca from Brooklyn's OCTOBER THORNS, TRANS SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA bassist Dave Z and SAVATAGE and TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA drummer Jeff Plate. By Spring, a second solo album was underway, these sessions to include the first studio recording of a DOCTOR BUTCHER outtake 'Iraq Attack' featuring Jon Oliva as well as original DOCTOR BUTCHER bassist Brian Gregory.

Caffrey's group united with ex-JUDAS PRIEST vocalist Tim 'Ripper' Owens band BEYOND FEAR and the solo band of SAVATAGE colleague Jon Oliva, JON OLIVA'S PAIN, for US live dates commencing 9th September in Cleveland. Caffrey, still maintaining the same band unit, entered a New York studio on 8th February 2006 to craft a new album for Black Lotus. Drummer Jeff Plate opted out of the scenario in March, being succeeded by former MY RUIN drummer Yael Benzaken for a new album titled 'Pins And Needles'.

Caffery hooked up with the reformed SPREAD EAGLE for US live dates in August. With Black Lotus going under, the guitarist duly signed 'Pins And Needles' over to Metal Heaven Records in January 2007. The guitarist also provided guest playing on Chicago based British guitarist ANDREW BORDONI's solo album entitled 'Andrew Bordoni & Friends'.

Caffery teamed up with KOTIPELTO, ELIS and TRIOSPHERE for a European tour in April. His live band included vocalist Paul LaPaca once again, bassist Nick Douglas from the DORO band plus journeyman drummer John Macaluso of TNT, ARK, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and STARBREAKER repute.

Chris Caffery toured as a member of noted German singer DORO's band for her summer 2007 European festival appearances and North American headlining trek between May 5th and June 30th.

The guitarist entered the studio at the end of April 2008 to begin recording a further solo album, 'House Of Insanity', at Ultimate Music Studios in Cortland, New York. John Macaluso handled drums for a set which included a cover version of 'Get Up, Stand Up' originally by BOB MARLEY. The instrumental track 'Schizophrenia' contained guest solos, including those from Glen Drover, ex-MEGADETH, Jeff Loomis, of NEVERMORE, and Alex Skolnick, of TESTAMENT and TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA.
