Biography

A Mineola, Long Island, New York Deathcore unit with blasphemous overtones. First recorded product was a four song 1992 demo cassette, 'Liturgy Of Impurity', co-produced by Steve Meyer at Executive Suite Recording studios. For this set PYREXIA counted a band line-up of vocalist Darryl Wagner, guitarists Guy Marchais, previously of MORTUARY, and Rob Shimonski, bass player Chris Basile, another MORTUARY veteran, and drummer Mike Andrekio. A self-titled demo cassette followed in 1993. Chris Pervalas, later of INTERNAL BLEEDING, briefly occupied the guitar position.

The 1993 album 'Sermon Of Mockery', issued through Drowned Productions, would see PYREXIA filling the guitar vacancy with Tony Caravella. However, Darryl Wagner opted out the following year. A re-issue of the debut during 1999 by Pathos Productions, added 'Liturgy Of Impurity'. Keith DeVito took over the lead vocal mantle for the 1995 EP 'Hated, Anger And Disgust', released as a limited run of 1000 copies by Mockery Records. Subsequently, Pathos Productions manufactured a further 1000 EPs.

PYREXIA's third effort, the 1997 album 'System Of The Animal' on Danish imprint Serious Entertainment, witnessed further changes, DeVito and Basile, the latter having switched to guitar, being joined by bass player Ryan Harrison and drummer Rob Maresca. DeVito would be loaned out for European tour dates as stand in frontman for SUFFOCATION. Guitarist Guy Marchais would later join INTERNAL BLEEDING and CATASTROPHIC. There is a further INTERNAL BLEEDING connection with bass player Brian Hobbie.

During 2001 vocalist Keith DeVito, guitarist Guy Marchais, bassist Brian Hobbie and drummer Rob Maresca united with OBITUARY guitarist Trevor Peres in order to create CATASTROPHIC. This union produced the Metal Blade album 'The Cleansing'.

PYREXIA reformed in late 2002, putting in a run of live dates alongside MORTAL DECAY in July 2003. For these gigs the MALEVOLENT CREATION credited Justin Dipinto manned the drums. PYREXIA members guitarist Chris Basile and bassist Jay Snell subsequently joined STORM. PYREXIA returned with 'Cruelty Beyond Submission', released in 2004 by Crash Music. This compilation assembled archive tracks bolstered by three new tracks fronted by new singer Erick Schute.

PYREXIA released the album 'Age Of The Wicked', on January 23rd 2007 via Unique Leader Records. The group at this juncture comprised singer Erick Schute, guitarist Lee Cozens, bassist Chris Basile with Justin DiPinto on drums. Further changes in the roster marked the introduction of the DISEMBOWEL, HATE ETERNAL and INTERNAL SUFFERING credited bassist Makoto Mizoguchi and the re-employment of Rob Shimonski.
