Biography

One of New York's original Hardcore bands. Fronted by Jimmy 'Gestapo' Drescher and including erstwhile LUDICHRIST bassist Chuck Valle, MURPHY'S LAW came together in 1983. Guitarist Todd Youth joined the band from WARZONE replacing founder member Uncle Al. Todd - apparently sacked because he was too old! Chris Doherty from GANG GREEN filled in temporarily upon Youth's abrupt departure, the ex-member going on to join CHROME LOCUST, D-GENERATION and, in 2000, DANZIG. The guitarist also put in a touring stint with MOTÖRHEAD. Drummer Pete Heinz quit to join CRO MAGS.

MURPHY'S LAW toured Europe in 1991 (for dates in Germany Drescher wisely dropped his 'Gestapo' stage name) promoting the album 'The Best Of Times'. The band took MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES horn section out on the road to augment their sound.

'The Best Of Times' record saw bass contributions from Tommy Kennedy of THE ULTRAVIOLENCE, Valle being unavailable attending the birth of his son. Members of FISHBONE also guested on the spook of PAUL McCARTNEY & STEVIE WONDER's 'Ebony And Ivory'.

Bassist Eddie Cohen joined LEE WAY then teamed up with BOTH WORLDS in 1993 with his ex-LEEWAY colleagues guitarist A.J. Novello and drummer Jimmy 'Pokey' Mo and erstwhile CRO-MAGS vocalist Jimmy Joseph.

Youth founded a side project band CHRONIC HALITOSIS in 1994 with bassist Josh Lazie and SUGARTOOTH drummer Joey Castillo. The rhythm section would later team up with DANZIG.

In 1997 MURPHY'S LAW donated their version of 'Zoom' to the compilation album 'Show & Tell - A Stormy Remembrance Of TV Themes'. The following a split 7" single, shared with L.E.S. STITCHES, featured 'Quality Of Life'. A cover version of THE CLASH's 'Hate And War' found its way onto the 'City Rockers' tribute album in 1999 and a rendition of 'New York' to a SEX PISTOLS homage 'Never Mind The Sex Pistols: Here's The Tribute' through Radical Records.

Guitarist Todd Youth joined CHROME LOCUST then in late 1999 teamed up with DANZIG. Ex-MURPHY'S LAW bassist Dean Rispler would go onto THE VOLUPTUOUS HOUR OF KAREN BLACK, Southern Stoners THE BROUGHT LOW and melodic Rockers TIGER MOUNTAIN.

Artemis Records released a new MURPHY'S LAW studio album, 'The Party's Over', in 2001. 'Beer, Smoke, And Live' followed in 2002. A covers album, 'Try Murphy's Law covered' arrived in 2005, this set seeing takes on tracks by DEEP PURPLE, THE CLASH and CIRCLE JERKS. A DVD, 'Up With Us, Down With Them', would be scheduled for September 2005 issue. That same year two ex-band members, guitarist Todd Youth and bassist Dean Rispler, together with the PILLBOX and D-GENERATION credited Joe Rizzo on drums, forged new band unit TODD YOUTH'S HEARTACHES.
