Biography
In 2003 THE DICTATORS and MANITOBA'S WILD KINGDOM guitarist 'Handsome' Dick Manitoba (a.k.a. Richard Blum), formed an alliance with founding MC5 members guitarist Wayne Kramer, bassist Michael David and drummer Dennis Thompson in a new band billed DKT/MC5. The formation debuted at the 100 Club in London on 13th March 2003, an event marked by onstage guests including Lemmy of MOTȪRHEAD, THE DAMNED's Dave Vanian and THE HELLACOPTERS' Nicke Andersson. Ian Astbury of THE CULT and THE DOORS took lead vocals for a closing encore of 'Kick Out The Jams'. The show would be filmed for DVD release as 'Sonic Revolution: A Celebration of the MC5'. That same year Kramer donated guest guitar to the track 'Detroit City' on ALICE COOPER's 'The Eyes Of Alice Cooper' album.
The group, with the added attraction of SCREAMING TREES and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE man Mark Lanegan, embarked upon an extensive US touring schedule throughout the Summer of 2004 prior to hitting Australia, New Zealand and Japan. For the Australian gigs DKT/MC5 would be complimented onstage by Deniz Tek of RADIO BIRDMAN, Mark Arm of MUDHONEY and Evan Dando of the LEMONHEADS whilst Howlin' Pelle Almquist of THE HIVES guested in Japan. August would be taken up by European gigs and festival performances, closing the tour in September in Scandinavia.
A concert at London's Festival Hall on 25th February 2005 was set to feature THE CULT guitarist Billy Duffy alongside Lisa Kekaula of THE BELLRAYS but nearer the date the GUNS N' ROSES and HEART credited GILBY CLARKE stepped into the guitar position. Also guesting would be David Thomas of PERE UBU.
