Biography

An eclectic New York experimental Metal unit fronted by the visually aggressive dreadlocked persona of Karyn Crisis. Founder and Pakistani born guitarist Afzaal Nasirudden would induct Karyn Crisis into the band despite the original bass player's protestations at the prospect of a female singer. With Crisis duly signed up Taiwanese Gia Chuan Wang took the bass role. CRISIS made their first statement of intent with the 1994 album '8 Convulsions'. Signing to the Metal Blade label for the sophomore 'Deathshead Extermination' album CRISIS completed a two month tour of America during mid 1996 sharing a bill with PRO-PAIN and VOIVOD despite original drummer Fred Waring quitting to concentrate on his family before the dates commenced. The band hastily pulled in NAUSEA and THORN's Roy Mayorga for a batch of shows before drafting ex-GORGON man Scott Bates. European dates had the band sharing stages with the SPUDMONSTERS and KICKBACK before a return U.S. road trip guesting for FU MANCHU. Mayorga later joined SOULFLY, PALE DEMONS (MEDICATION) and even had three weeks with OZZY OSBOURNE.

Recording the 1997 album 'The Hollowing' was aided by studio session drummers such as Mayorga, DEADBOLT's Chris Hamilton, Fred Waring III and former STIGMATA and BURNING HUMAN man Jason Bittner, the latter taking up a full time position with the band. ACID BATH's Sammy Pierre Duet also contributed as did FLOODGATE's Kyle and SWANS Norman Westberg.

Splitting from Metal Blade Records the band took to the road in earnest. CRISIS would feature with the track 'Captain Howdy' on DEE SNIDER's 'Strangeland' horror movie soundtrack album and cut a new six track Keith Falgout produced demo. In 1999 the band added second guitarist Jwyanza Kaloji Hobson of TOAD EATER and Tony Costanza of MACHINE HEAD and SALVO repute took over the drum mantle. Costanza would later drift off joining high profile act Sludgers CROWBAR.

Subsequently the band, pulling in drummer Christopher J. Olivas, re-titled itself SKULLSICK NATION. By 2002 SKULLSICK NATION would once again be working with Roy Mayorga on new material. As session guests both Crisis and Nasirudden would also lend their talents to the DEBRIS INC. debut record, the project band of TROUBLE's Ron Holzner and ST. VITUS man Dave Chandler.

Karyn Crisis reformed CRISIS in December of 2002. TODAY IS THE DAY drummer Marshall Kilpatric had enrolled by January 2003. However, this latest recruit was out of the picture by April and Josh Florian had taken over the role. Signing to The End Records CRISIS set to work with producer Billy Anderson at the Desert Moon Studios in Anaheim, California on a new studio outing 'Like Sheep Led To Slaughter'. The band undertook a short stint of dates in the New York area in April before the band's touring campaign extended into Summer dates allied with SOULFLY and ILL NINO. A further run of shows allied with OTEP and KITTIE commenced in late September. However, drummer Josh Florian was forced out the day before kick off, suffering a burst appendix. Tino Losicco of ENRAPTURED and EPOCH OF UNLIGHT stepped in as quick fire substitute but by January of 2005 Australian Ryan Bell, a veteran of PURE OUTBREAK, INCRYPT and DESPIRE, had assumed the position. Proposed February dates were to witness an alliance with 3 INCHES OF BLOOD but the band withdrew from these plans as Chuan Wang's wife was due to give birth at this time.

According to a band statement, following three rehearsals with their new drummer and having "experienced the chaos of his personality", Ryan Bell would be let go in mid February. Shortly afterwards Bell was arrested for an armed robbery in Pennsylvania. CRISIS soldiered on, engaging ex-SOCIETY 1 drummer Justin Arman as a fill-in. A further short run of dates in June had the group in union with M.O.D. and JACKNIFE. However, mid-tour the band dropped off these dates, citing "financial concerns". Yet more woes hit the band in September when Gia Wang, the group's bass player for the previous 12 years, opted out due to "family commitments".

In April 2006 CRISIS issued a closing statement "All of us in Crisis would like to let our very faithful and diehard fans know that the band is going on an indefinite hiatus."

In May 2009 former CRISIS frontwoman Karyn Crisis advertised she was seeking musicians for her new solo band, the KARYN CRISIS BAND being forged as a partnership with Davide Tiso, Italian guitarist and songwriter of extreme metal band EPHEL DUATH.
